Hi, hope this isin the right place :-)
My daughter turns 17 soon & will be taking driving lessons...
Now we may be able to grab a cheap car ( T reg fiesta), I know the owner & the cars history, so although old, it's well maintained.
Looked online at insurance for her & it's crazy.
We looked as if she was 17 now & had passed her test, with me as owner & main driver.....fully comp £5,500!!!
Anyone any ideas & advice?

Buy her a big ol Volvo or Rover 75. Insurance will be tiny compared to a Fiesta.0

My daughter uses InsuretheBox, one of the telematic insurance companies. It has a cap on the mileage she can use, but if you drive well you can earn bonus miles. It was much cheaper than any other quote she was offered and she hasn't had any issues with them.0

Really?? How come? I'd have thought a tiny ford fiesta would be nothing to insure?0 -

That is fronting and is illegal.0 -

It's statistics based, more young drivers have crashes in fiestas/corsas than luxobarges.
Young drivers are getting quotes under £1k in them

The cost isn't just based on engine size - it's based on the number of accidents caused by people who drive that sort of car... which in turn depends on the sort of people who drive them. Not wanting to stereotype, but a young person in the sort of car which is popular with boy racers is going to raise alarm bells with insurers. Something as boring and sensible as possible - a Volvo or a Mondeo perhaps - may well work out cheaper, as the bigger engine is less important than the fact that it screams "I'm not a boy racer".0

Quote is all wrong. Try Third Party F&T, Daughter as owner and main driver, you or spouse as a named driver and as big as an excess as you can afford and see if that's better.0

Why would you insure it in your name? Insurers caught into that decades ago!!Trying to be a man is a waste of a woman0 -

Yes I know, BUT it would be used by me as well! Especially if I lose my mobility car, when DLA becomes pip..that's a whole other story.0 -

Teenagers stick crap all over a Fiesta (silly alloys, exhausts etc) then plough them into trees / other cars / houses etc.
Doesn't happen much in larger cars, hence cheaper premiums.0
