So I think you must be mistaken over your assertion that "it said categorically on the website that I would get £30 cashback." ;)

Sorry but here is a screenshot from the Cheap Energy Club:

Hope the pic works! I've never posted one before.

ETA: Pic v small but it says "Cashback: You'll get £30 cashback 3 months after switching" under the deatils of my switch

Added a bit to my earlier post - no tricks, no cons, you just don't appear to have read and understood the terms :)

Why does it say in big bold letters under the details of my switch that I will get £30 cashback 3 months after switching then?

Sorry but to my mind this takes precedence over something hidden in the small print!

Your screenshot appears to still say "Switch in progress" and that you will be saving £78 a year (ignoring any possible cashback)

Maybe I haven't been switched then? How long should it take?

I thought it had been done within a couple of weeks because it showed as the discount energy bonus on SSE website

Also: My other question still stands, would be grateful if anyone could answer: Why does it say in big bold letters under the details of my switch that I will get £30 cashback 3 months after switching if this doesn't apply to me?

Why don't you call SSE and ask to clarify which tariff you are currently on?

During that call, you could also ask whether or not SSE has/will pay any referral money to MoneySuperMarket.com for the switch of tariff :)

Ok good idea, thanks. Will give them a call this evening and see what they say. Not sure if customer service call centre staff will know about referral money but nothing to lose by asking!

I am beginning to think that it is a con. I also switched back in February - to First Utility from British Gas and EDF. I was told this should save me about £200 per year. My combined gas and electricity for last year was about £1,600 and First utility are charging me £153 per month which works out at £1,836 per year so, far from saving money, this is going to cost an extra £200 per year. Can I get out of it? or am I stuck for a year? BTW-I did get my £30 cashback, which in no way compensates for being screwed for an extra £200 p.a. Also, I am new to this site, could someone please tell me how to make a new post? I can't see a 'new post' option anywhere. Thanks.

The annual cost of both the existing deal and the new FU deal would have been calculated based on the consumption data you provided.

The monthly DD payments can be quite misleading, and it's the annual cost that is important.

When you say create a new post, do you mean create a new thread?
If so, you need to be on the front page of the appropriate board where you can see the list of threads
(e.g. here it would be http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/forumdisplay.php?f=13)
A New Thread button can be found at the top and bottom left of the list of threads.
