New phone on way but I didn't agree a new tariff!!

I'm coming to the end of my contract with Virgin Mobile and rang them to see what they could offer me. I was offered a tariff that I was happy with and after 15 minutes conversation and even giving an alternative delivery address for the handset, the guy from Virgin announced "Oh dear, the computer won't let me give you that deal" and proceeded to offer a tariff with less minutes, texts and data. I said I didn't have time to discuss it as I had to go to a meeting and I would call them tomorrow. I've had an email to say my new handset is on its way. I called into my local Virgin store who contacted the call centre for me and it seems that the order had progressed so far tha the handset was dispatched before the computer stopped the deal. They agreed it shouldn't have happened, the call centre worker was at fault and I have to ring to arrange a tariff.

My query is, how should I play this? As they have messed up, I should be able to negotiate a good deal. I'm happy with the handset but just need a bit of advice as how to get the best deal.

As you don't have any proofs, I can suggest another possible scenario that you have to be prepared to:
    • They say that you agreed to the deal.
    • They deny the existence of the phone call recording.
Check whether they offer any cooling off period for upgrades as there is some controversy with regard to DSR and upgrades.

Its also possible that OP gets run over, but i dont think it will happen

Most probably tell them what deal was offered, andd that you will cancel the contract and return the phone , them paying the P&p . Just get speaking to a manager...
