I hope someone can help me, I'm worried I'm in danger of messing everything up!
I have a Shopify site at the usual Shopify domain and now want it to go live on my own domain. The domain was bought through 123-reg and I have tried to follow instructions but I'm completely clueless and nothing appears to change the website. I have added a CNAME linking to it and added the www subdomain.
The other thing I'm worried about is if I change my hosting to Shopify what will happen to my current email address through my domain?
Any help appreciated!

Just because you made a mistake doesn't mean you are a mistake.

Hi Drea
123-reg has asked us to post a response. MSE doesn't endorse anything a company says on the forum.
Hello Drea,
From your post I can see you have your domain name, and I think email, through 123-reg and you have created your website with Shopify.
To get your domain name linking up to your website and keep your emails working at the same time you will need to create two DNS entries.
The first will be a CNAME for the www subdomain, which I think from your post you have created already.
The second will be an A record for your blank domain name (ie the domain name with no subdomain). This A record will need to point to the IP address your website is hosted on. Shopify should be able to provide you with the IP address.
To find out how to set up the A record you can use this guide:
http://www.123-reg.co.uk/support/answers/Domains/Domain-Configuration/how-do-i-point-my-domain-name-to-an-ip-address-1200/
When following this guide please enter @ into the hostname box.
If you need any more help I would be more than happy to advise you directly. If you send details of the domain name over to customerexperience@123-reg.co.uk I will be in touch further.
Regards,
Nerys

Well done to 123-reg for scanning a forum like this - they are image conscious. If only a few more of the bigger companies were doing the same - BT, Sky, Tiscali, TalkTalk, 1and1, to name but a few.. they might actually realise what the public think of them...0
