Who was the seller? Dixons :(
Do you still have proof of purchase? No- Lost during house move :(

Oh, and is it really a safety issue? - The issue actually occurred on Stand-By, luckily i was in the house when the fire alarm was triggered.

After unplugging the TV , and replugging it in, the issue repeats but the TV would no longer turn on.

So legally, as you didn't buy from them, Samsung have gone way above and beyond to offer you money. Take the money and run :)

So you have no proof of purchase and yet Samsung (with whom you have no contract are offering you £270.

That makes it even more imperative to take the money and run, the next offer could be zero if you are not careful.

    Sorry maybe I wasn't clear,

I meant as in completing the original promise samsung extended to repair the TV free of charge, due to the nature of the issue not being an actual lifespan caused fault.

I was more than happy with the aspect of having the same TV returned but repaired, but now I have no option other than to take the offer of £270, they are at the moment essentially ransoming that offer and to me, that seems to be not quite right. If the issue was the screen stopped working, or broke, id have accepted that right away. But due the TV becoming a fire-risk in my property, potentially causing huge amount of damage to my house.

Maybe I'm being stubborn, I just don't feel like this issue should have happened, and Don't see why i should stump up 7-800 to replace it

You have to take into consideration though, you're not just without a tv. You're without a 5 year old TV. Given the advancements in technology, your 5 year tv would have likely cost more 5 years ago than a more advanced model of the same size would cost now.

Its not uncommon for certain items to lose 30-50% of their value after just the first year.

Even if you had dealt with the retailer, the law does allow them to offer a partial refund. The customer can ofc request a repair or replacement but the retailer can refuse if the consumers choice is disproportionately costly in comparison to another remedy. When things start getting towards the end of their lifespan, it is usually always cheaper to partially refund than repair or replace.

But as above look on the bright side, you have £270 to put towards a new tv. The new tv will likely be a better spec than your old one and will probably be slightly cheaper too.
You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride

Not sure if anyone else has said this, but I suggest you take the money and run
One important thing to remember is that when you get to the end of this sentence, you'll realise it's just my sig.

And to get unanimous consensus on this board, is virtually unheard of.

I don't agree, yes take the money but don't run...if you run you could fall over your lace and the money may fly out of the hand, into the air, over the side of the building you are on to the masses below.

I would take the money and walk carefully away :D
