The whole crate issue?
Part of me wants to use a crate and the other part feels that is it is a glorified cage.
Sounds sad but i have a thing about caged animals. i know completely different. But ???
He is very good outside for last thing at time then bed at 10ish. Up again at 4.30 and then he is ready to start the day and play anytime from 5.45 on-wards. I suppose that this sounds normal its just jazz was 16 when she died so i guess i had just forgotten that it can take a lot of time. At least I have time to take him to the beach before work so I suppose its not all bad.
He goes out again with OH who starts work at 2pm then I get back at 6 and its park time. I think i just need to turn his sleep time into ours as normally by about 8pm he is zonked.
I would make the most of him being cuddly, by the end of the week he will have forgotten and back to his normal full of beans lets go and have fun self.
I am away for the weekend so it will be the first time we have left him so i bit worried. We have a family friend who dotes on him so i know he will be fine just hope he does not go OTT on the treats.
Hope you have a good weekend and he starts to feel himself.Happiness, Health and Wealth in that order please!:A0 -
I've read many things about crates and to be honest I feel that it's his "space". Dogs are den animals and if he hated it he wouldn't go a sit next to it and cry when we get back from a walk if the crate door is locked! Helps massively with his potty training and I keep a large throw over it at night time so he's not awake when the sun is up!
It also gives you peace of mind if you need to put him away for half an hour while you do the cleaning/pop out or just have a little bit of you time without having to worry what the dog might be eating! It's also great for when he needs a bit of chill out time if he gets too excited or won't settle down. It would be cruel to leave a dog in a crate for 7 or 8 hours during the day I agree however for a couple of hours here and there it's not an issue. Lenny absolutely loves his crate, to the point now whenever he get a chew stick or similar he gets it and b-line's straight for the cage to eat it in peace
I can't wait for him to be normal, I love his hooligan half-hour!
Definitely try and keep him awake a little longer. Try taking him out at about 8pm instead and then play with him/do some training at 9. Lenny is usually flat out by 9pm but h'e such a young pup he's happy to sleap right through, though come 7:30 he's ready for action but never whinges or barks to be out of the crate - another sign that he enjoys being in there
Thanks for your wishes and I'll let you know how he's getting on.0
