Tail amputation

My poor Lenny has had to go to the vet this morning to have his tail amputated under anesthetic :(

He's been biting at it for a few weeks and we've tried everything the vet can come up with to stop him from doing it but as it's now infected it was recommended to have it removed. He's go juvenile impetigo and the vet reckons that's what started off the nibbling and now because it's scabbed it'll be even more itchy!

He's a springer so it won't look out of place, it'll just be as though he had been docked but I feel sorry for him, he's only 11 weeks old and 5 days of lead walking won't impress him either!

Aw poor wee chap, but at least at that age he'll bounce back soon enough from the op and he'll still be darn handsome.

Oh yes he's a beautiful boy and I'm sure it'll have no affect on him! Just feel so bad he looked as though he knew something was happening this morning!

Great to hear! He's only 11 weeks old so he's still got most of his growing ahead of him and shouldn't affect him at all!

Hopefully he will be fine. At 11 weeks he will happily accept most things and will heal rapidly.

There's a man in my road who's just purchased a Rottweiler female puppy and he has now decided he would prefer her without her tail - she's 4 months old.

He says he knows "a mate" who will do the docking for him and I'm afraid I've made an enemy there as I told him if he gets that pup's tail docked by this "mate" he will be getting a visit from the RSPCA. He won't need to wonder who grassed him up because it will be me.

Yeah it's a pretty serious offence to dock a tail without medical/working dog reasons! The receptionist at the vet was telling me this morning that someone local got 12 weeks in prison for docking his jack russell puppies a few weeks back. He claimed he went out and someone must have got into his garden and cut them off...

Thankfully the vet will provide me with a letter to confirm that it's been done on medical grounds in the event someone does try to shop me!

ours was done by the vet, he was taken to kennels when he was a few months old and they never went back for him. Every time someone walked past his cage he thought it was for him and wagged his tail so much he split the end of it, it never healed
