Ipod Shuffle or MP3 Player

I'm trying to sort out my cd collection and put it onto digital. I don't know whether to buy an MP3 Player of Shuffle.

My wife has an IPod and uses our PC for her iTunes library. If I was to buy a Shuffle how could I transfer all my music onto it? Would there be a conflict with her collection?

Would it help if I bought a non-Apple mp3 player and used some other way to transfer my collection such as Windows media player?

Are the Shuffles the best or is there a good MP3 player you can recommend?

Thanks

Do you each use a separate user account on the machine or share the one log in?

Shuffles don't provide easy access to individual songs: you just get them at random. Nano makes more sense.

You'll need separate accounts on the PC to keep your libraries separate.

I looked for a decent MP3 player with a shuffle feature (which is what I wanted) and came to the conclusion that an ipod shuffle was the best way to go. Suits my needs perfectly and very happy with it, I was lucky enough to get one for Christmas.

Thanks guys for your replies. apart from me listening to some podcasts it is my wife's library and her log in. I want to separate my music from hers how do I do this?

Open iTunes while holding SHIFT down.

This will allow you to create a separate library for your own iPod.

Once you've done that then you each open iTunes while pressing SHIFT and select the library you want.

No probs. I have a shuffle and I think it's great. So long as you are happy that it plays either in the order you load music onto it, or random shuffle, then it's great. If you want to pick a certain song to play then it's a case of skipping til it comes on. A nano gives more choice to find stuff on there, but costs more obviously. You can get MP3 players that offer nano functionality for shuffle money but the iTunes sync is lost and you would need to use another media player.

My missus loved her Nano with the mini touch screen until she got an iPhone upon which the Nano did not get touched again. So off to Ebay it went. Cute and featherweight gadget though.

I've tried doing this and it does appear to create a separate library, but before I can add any of my music, it copies all my wife's music over (or seems to)

We have both a Shuffle and 6th gen. Nano, the shuffle rarely gets used because it doesn't have a screen to move between tracks easily, but Nano is used constantly, plugged into hi-fi and out and about, get my vote and it's beautifully made.
