Anyone with your sort code and account number can setup DDs, they don't need any part of your security information or login details.0 -
It is more convenient to leave your card permanently in the slot having pressed 'on/off' as the wear on contacts is eliminated
So how does one get cash from an ATM or pay by debit card in a shop or pay for petrol?Getting forgetful, if you think I've asked this before I probably have. :rotfl:0 -

I think the HSBC system is similar to, if not the same as, the Co-op Bank's system.
No - HSBC's is completely different to the other banks' systems.
Everyone else's are interchangeable (so you can use, for example, a Co-op reader to log into a Nationwide account) and allow you to use the cardreader belonging to either you or someone else - it doesn't matter.
HSBC, however, require you to use your own HSBC device. Nothing else.0 -

Based on your description I'd say that the Co-op's device is identical to HSBC's. You don't put your card into the Co-op's device, -there isn't even a slot for one. It's little more than a keyring and it even comes with a ring attached. The device generates code numbers to logon with. When it came I had to ring telephone banking and confirm the serial no. of the device to lock it to my account, so it's certainly not interchangeable with any other Co-op account, let alone any other bank's accounts.0 -

I have one and you definitely put a card into it. Maybe you have a different one. Care to share a picture? Here's mine:
Put your debit card into the slot at the top of the Card Reader, with the chip facing you and downwards. The debit card you choose to use with your Card Reader doesn’t have to be linked to the account you are moving money to or from. 0 -
