Sorry to highjack, I got £101-50 last night for my Iphone 3GS 16G on Ebay, mint condition. Thoughts on price? I realise they are getting obsolete in terms of Apps etc but I had hoped for a bit more? Still, as long as it broke the 100 barrier can't grumble I suppose. What is the going rate for above?

If you wanted more, you should have put a reserve on it.

As you didn't, consider it sold!

Indeed, but a reserve would need to be less than £100 to generate interest or, clearly, no-one would be interested so I don't see how that would help?

It's a good price for a very old model, if you consider Mazuma are only paying £30 for them now, and I've seen them in the local phone shop window for around £80 in their box and unlocked, I would say you did well.

You can buy an iPhone 4 for £130-160 these days, so your price was more than fair.

  • Just purchased a mobile phone on ebay recently and have had no trouble. Just remember to read their feedback from others, and if in doubt, contact them and ask questions before bidding.

    Hope that helps.

I've bought and sold fair few (decent) phones via eBay and had no problems. I would suggest that you use a credit card to fund your PayPal account, adds another layer of protection.

Unfortunately it doesn't. It's what I thought too, but paying via Paypal appears to remove the Section 75 protection. (See my thread in the Credit Card forum.)

Buying from Ebay I'd have to use Paypal, but never again for anything from a "normal" retailer!
    . . .I did not speak out

    Then they came for me
And there was no one left
    To speak out for me..

Agreed, and it's quite easy to see their rationale. You aren't buying anything with the credit card, merely funding your Paypal account. So it's only reasonable that the CC issuer isn't a party to the purchase.
