HI there,
Just a warning really...After reading about getting my sky subscription down I contacted Sky telling them I couldn't afford the monthly amount they were charging and that I could get the same service at Virgin for much less. The guy told me he could get my bill down for me (from £57.50 to £33.87). I agreed to stay on.
I checked my bills this morning and for the past few months my account has reverted back to £57.50 a month. After speaking to Sky this reduction was only a '6 month discount'. Without doubt the person I spoke to originally never mentioned this or I would have just left...I feel deceived into staying on with them and also a bit stupid not to have checked my bills before and trusted Sky.
When they offer you a discount...be sure to find out how long it is for. They are checking if they have the conversation recorded but I wouldn't be at all surprised if they don't find it.
Ben.

So you conversation saved you £142 over 6 months, not bad for a single phone call.
Even so a useful reminder my half price movie offer ends next month. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
Not a bad saving - but you could have expected the price would have some end date you needed to explore.
It would be your task to ASK how long the discount lasted. 6 months is about right.0 -
Agree with the first two replies. And sorry for saying, but you weren't mislead, you didn't ask. And six months is a decent period for that kind of discount.0

I agree. Mislead(sic) is a gross exaggeration.
Caveat emptor.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -

Just ask them for another discount! In fact, last year, the lady who gave me my discount told me to call back when the 6months was up. I did, and they gave me another discount!0
