Recording Sky without Sky+

Hi all,

Have a bit of a problem.

Sky guys are arriving to install Sky on Monday, unfortunately due to a communal dish and cheapskate builders I only have one SAT port meaning I can not get the Sky+ box. I asked if I could get it simply for recording but they said they had experienced problems with this in the past.

Im looking for a solution that doesnt involved using a VCR!

Can I run the Sky through my Media Centre PC?

DVD recording?

Hard drive recording?

Really annoyed about the whole thing, but still want to get Sky.

Cheers,

I've heard that some PVR's will record through SKY? I think it depends on whether the PVR can decode the information... You googled PVR and Sky? :)

This little thing seems to get rave reviews, so I think if I hook this up to a DVD recorder it should do the trick!

    Thanks.

PVR will record through Sky, I do it.

Alternatively you can still use Sky+ (with limited functionality) with only one feed. You will need to pay Sky £10 a month for this unless you subscribe to two premium channels.

What PVR unit do you have?

Someone at work told me I can get a Sky+ box from Ebay for around £50 and hook that up.

How would that work as I presumed I had to pay Sky for using Sky+?

nothing stopping you buying the sky + box...it's the functions you have to pay for through sky so without the £10 subs it'll behave just like an ordinary sky box you'd be unable to record anything etc...

Although have a look at this post the sky + subs may be coming to an end.....

    I use a Panasonic PVR.

"Sky guys are arriving to install Sky on Monday" ???

You can watch free to air (for free). To watch Sky you need a subscription plus pay either for two premium channels or £10 per month to use Sky+

With only one line you can only record one channel and cannot watch another Sky channel whilst you record. You can watch a.n.other free to air - if you got a digital TV.

You can get a Sky+ box off Flee Bay for < £50 but I think you will be very lucky to find a Sky+ box for that and it will probably be stolen.

Engineers are installing Sky on Monday. Normal Sky. Package includes the sports package.

However Sky would not allow me get Sky+ as I only have one SAT port in the flat.

The Panasonic PVR you use, is that a freeview PVR?
