i would have thought top priority would be to employ someone who is competent, and qualified , as is paying the going rate
It is, and that's what a quality trader would do, problem is not everyone knows the going rate, most only employ on the very odd occasion.I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -
Other boards quote UNIT rates, as 2.3% isa and so much a kilo or litre.
So come on Traders , rate per hour plus parts, or an estimate of so many hours at so much.0 -
Another example of my approach

i normally go with a price i'm happy to pay from someone who i'm happy to use , whether they are charging the going rate is irrelevant , i would rather pay someone i know and trust a bit more than risk plucking a random name from yell etc that might be a bit cheaper0 -
My rates are very reasonable;)

Can anyone recommend a decent honest solicitor please? I am sick to death of how dishonest they are. Making their work seem like some kind of black art. Their persistent writing too and fro of letters and spinning out the simplest of tasks....Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0

I don't think they exist mate.Ask me no questions, and I'll tell you no lies0 -
And bigging up the price by tradespeople is rampant on this board. Time for the forum staff to bring order.
i cannot see how you can justify that comment as most people ask things like how much should the outside of my house cost to redecorate , and on the whole that is , give or take ,all the amount of info given from which you are expected to work out a rough price , most of the time the tradespeople here give great advice and help .
if you get 10 quotes then the chances are you'll get 10 varying prices ,0 -
The problem with 'going rate' is that it doesn't really exist. And 'parts' also is a highly variable quantity - it's not like there only being one size/make of air filter to fit a car.
For example, in Somerset where I am, I have to charge £200.00 per day + VAT (or pro-rate thereof). Ask me to look at a 'project' and I'll give you a fixed quote instead. Now, that's fairly cheap-to-competitive around here, but if I tried to charge that in certain places in the UK I'd never hear the phone ring - likewise in the M25 I'd never be able to get off the damn thing as I'd be exceptionally cheap.
Because....an hourly rate has to take into account the business overheads divided by hours of work - and it costs a lot more to operate in some places than others.
Does this mean we should only have tradesmen operating in certain parts of the country and abandon everyone else?0 -
Trade organisation like NICEi and Gas Safe and even trade unions will always try to rig things to keep labour prices high.
What I want to see is more competition to keep prices down for consumers and with high unemployment thus shouldn't be a problem.
It's already happening with my neighbour employing Polish electricians and Latvian ground workers etc.
So good luck with your £200 a day business.0
