bad mannered job interviewer

While I was uni I applied to work for a private halls of residence as a evening support assistant. At the interview everything I said the interviewer would say (yelp) Ooo I know exactly what you mean, in a strong livepodlian accent ...... Then tell me about her experience. I didn't the job, the feedback was that I had showed clearly enough how I met the needs of the role!0

I was part of an all day interview with a school, which involves teaching a lesson and an interview, so lasting all day. There was no offer of tea or coffee, no lunch provided or us told when there was time for us to go out and find something. One of the interviewers Yawned and looked at a flier he found on the desk during the interview. Two of the candidates were there from 8.30 but didnt get interviewed or seen until after 2pm. I wouldn't want to work for a organisation like that.0

I recently went for an interview where the person doing the interview didnt bother shaking my hand on the way in or out and didnt say the usual " hi come on in nuce to meet you" or "thanks for coming in" and for the entire time of the interview they sat chewing gum and were playing with the gum in the front of their teeth. I thought it was really bad manners and really unprofessional.
What sort of job was it?
If it was the sort of thing where you are expected to deal with "situations" and show initiative, they may have been testing your reactions.0 -
Some interesting interview horror stories here. I think the bottom line is, go with your gut instincts. After all, everyone is usually on their best behaviour at an interview, so if you get a bad attitude from the interviewer, then this should sound alarm bells.
What annoys me a lot is how some interviewers feel they have to prove their technical superiority over you. They've prepared an obscure question which they spent ages thinking about, or ask things that can be Googled in seconds to find the answer.
I can't tolerate a lack of respect for either party in an interview, and it's staggering that some people think they can act like this. The interview is very much a two way process!
And yes I completely agree that interviewing is a skill in itself, which gets better over time.0 -
I once had an interview with a guy whose body language clearly said he wasn't interested in me, or anything I had to say. I'd go as far as to say he'd taken a dislike to me, so I carried on with the interview and got out of there as fast as I could. He wasn't rude, just indifferent.
I was gobsmacked when I was offered the job and he ended up being one of the best bosses I've ever worked for. It was just his way with people he didn't know. I worked for that company for 6 years during which time he was made MD and was one of the best they'd had.
People sure are strange.0 -
I did some interviewing for a company recruiting sales reps. The interviewers were pretty rude and obnoxious on purpose as the successful recruits were going to get that behaviour from their prospective customers, and if you couldn't handle it, it would just be a waste of everyones time and money.0

I worked for a well known retailer some years ago. I phoned on the off chance to see if they had any vacancies. To my surprise they said they had and would I be available to be interviewed. I said, yes and had an informal pleasant interview with the temporary manger. I got the job there and then.
However, the following Monday I turned up with another chap and was placed in a store room watching a corporate video for two hours! That was the training!
Upon starting the job proper, the temp manager had left by this time. The actual manager nor his deputy never even said hello or introduced themselves to me. I had to ask another team member who the hell he was! His people skills were virtually non-existent! Glad it was not HE who had interviewed me!0 -

This line is so 2013 I've found!!! I blame the CV sifters as think this line is way to cheesy expecially when you've been offered and had an interview
Thanks heavens for this thread, Had to smile when I once had an interviews mobile phone ringing during an interview! and it got answered!...of all the things an interviewee is warned as sins... !!!0 -
I had one yesterday - swore at me throughout, was insulting towards me, sarcastic and ignorant; checking his phone all the time and stopping me talking to text. I wish I'd have slapped him!0

People are strange!
I remember at one of my interviews, the Area Manager barely glanced at me during the whole thing, and shook his head at a couple of my answers. Very uninviting.
But I got the job!
That was just the type of him - no eye contact and showing little interest.Wealth is what you're left with when all your money runs out0
