bad mannered job interviewer

Was just wondering if anyone has had experiences with bad mannered employers at job interviews
I recently went for an interview where the person doing the interview didnt bother shaking my hand on the way in or out and didnt say the usual " hi come on in nuce to meet you" or "thanks for coming in" and for the entire time of the interview they sat chewing gum and were playing with the gum in the front of their teeth. I thought it was really bad manners and really unprofessional.

In my exp there are too many job interviewers like this. I tend to view these episodes as lucky escapes though: a job interview works both ways, and the interviewer represent the company. Why go and work for a company that clearly cares so little for you? Unless you have no choice, I suppose.0

I didnt get the job but i wasnt that fussed after how the interviewer went on. As you said an interview works both ways so why should that behaviour be acceptable for them.0

Consider it a lucky escape. Anyone so ignorant as to treat you in that way is unlikely to be pleasant to spend 40+ hours a week with.
On a personal level I've had interviewers who were more interested in what was going on through the window, interviewers who never turned up or turned up 30mins late, numerous broken promises of communication and people who clearly lacked any empathy or social skills. Good interviewing is a skill and very few people seem to possess it.0 -
Did you get the interview via an agency or direct with the employer?tinkerbell_2k12 wrote: »I didnt get the job but i wasnt that fussed after how the interviewer went on. As you said an interview works both ways so why should that behaviour be acceptable for them.
Did you get feedback as to why you never got the job?
Maybe offer them some feedback on how well they did

I got the interview direct from the employer, they said there were other people that were a closer match to what they were looking for0 -
if they were that rude Id reply that I wouldn't have taken the job anyway because of their attitude etctinkerbell_2k12 wrote: »I got the interview direct from the employer, they said there were other people that were a closer match to what they were looking for

I was once blindsided by a duo that interrogated me during an interview. Their hostility left me no doubt that I was undesirable and would not be offered a position.
I not only got the job but was slotted in nine months before the vacancy was due to be filled and a year before others I'd been waiting with that day.
They had been testing my reaction to their behaviour. Always worth bearing in mind if things seem a little odd.0 -

Good point - this does happen. React like you would in the workplace - I couldn't suffer them and would not work with them in a million years and I made that clear
What was more amusing the day after my interview the company got really bad nationwide press about how bad they were to work for.0 -
I was once interviewed by a woman who smoked a cigar and swore like a trooper. She and her husband were just starting up in business and working from their house. I got the job but they were some of the worst employers I've ever worked for. They expected me to keep their working hours (ie 8am until 10 at night), but didnt pay any overtime. They treated me like a servant (I was allegedly a PA), and eventually bought another company complete with secretarial staff. They sacked me because they said they didnt need me. It was a long time ago now, and I doubt whether I had any security of tenure, but to be honest, it was a lucky escape!0
