The ONLY reason I want to keep the car is because it helps me in travelling to interviews (of which I have attended at least a dozen in the last year!), which are invariably more than a few hundred miles from my location, and train tickets are painfully unaffordable!

You couldn't make this up - long term unemployed and wants a car that they can't afford to go to interviews in.

I think the government should set up a new charity called Cars4Nothing. All workers contribute 5% of their income and the unemployed get a free car.

They would knock the amount off once the car has sold, I don't know how much they would add in fees though.

A bit of a long shot but it might be worthwhile finding out off the loan company how much you would be looking at being in debt to them if they did repossess, ask them what they think the car might sell for because they are the dealer and should have a rough idea, ask what the sum of the total fees to be incurred will be so you can get a figure. Ask by email or writing as you need to have it written down so you can see.

Your sarcasm and wit are duly noted.
Thank you for contributing nothing to the thread except bitterness towards a person whose situation you do not understand completely. How wonderfully open-minded of you.

You want to keep a car that you can't afford to pay for - what more is there to say?

    Your 'want' is duly noted.

I have come to the conclusion that the OP is taking the Michael. Out of the charities (which is disgusting), and out of us (which is outrageous!!)

For the sake of closure on this thread, I thought I'd add that the hearing went well. Strangely, the representative from the finance company didnt even show up!
I had a chance to explain my situation in elaborate detail to the judge, and he has agreed to the lower monthly rate and permitted me to keep the car, pending a review in 6 months' time.

    :-)

Thank you to all who have given me advice that was not stained by personal gripes and frustrations.

Well done for getting the 6 months' grace period. It looks like you're trying for specialist jobs if it requires trips of several hundred miles for interviews. I'd suggest looking for any job that's going nearer to home whilst you are still looking for the 'right' job.

When I was unemployed I delivered yellow pages whilst still looking for a 'proper' job.
loose does not rhyme with choose but lose does and is the word you meant to write.
