.mov in quicktime, playing sound no video

Hi Guys

I'm sorry to bother you all, I'm !!!! with computers and stuff but I'd love some help if thats ok.

My uncle took a few videos at my wedding and he put them on a usb and gave them to me 2 weeks ago. I can't get them to work though, I even tried on my mums computer as ours is basic but to no avail.

I've googled a fair bit over the 2 weeks, but nothings helping. The video's sound is brilliant, but the video movement stalls, then jumps and then stops, all the while the music remains perfect!

If anyone can help I'd really appreciate it :)

Looks like the codec you have installed is not compatible with the file, I advise you to download Video LAN:
Google Video LAN and its the first web address that comes up.

This software plays everything I can throw at it...

That would be VLC then it's here http://www.videolan.org/vlc/index.html

videolan.org is the place to start - it's an excellent and very forgiving player.

If that doesn't help, then the video file is at too high a bitrate for the computer you're trying to play on - and will either need to be 'transcoded' to a lower quality, or you get a better lappy to play it on ;-)

Tried videolan - it's exactly the same as quicktime! The music is really awesum lol pity about the video

Maybe it's time to get a super duper new computer, I know my uncle has a decent dell laptop but we usually operate off an iPad for browsing and only have a basic desktop for my 9year old to use for school homework, at least I know the issue though

Thanks for all your help, right as always!!

That will be ok , i.e. right click on it in Windows Explorer and select send to desktop or copy to folder of your choice....

DCM has a great point - it could be the USB bus that's slow

Make sure you copy the file, not just create a shortcut :-)

Just a thought but can you choose how much power your computer's using? Mine won't play VLC videos properly when it's on power saver option but then it'll play 1080p without a problem when it's on high performance.
'til the end of the line

OMG have tried it all - changing the performance of the computer was a good call, it improved it a bit - well the stoping and starting of the video quickened lol but it's still not working they way it did on his laptop

My desktop must be really basic haha
