Someone used my address to obtain a BT account - Help!!

    If you were a little less ready to jump to (erroneous ?) conclusions, your problem may well be solved.

    Your first post didn't mention that BT had already told you what to do - why then post on here about it ?

    It may have escaped your notice - but it is a bank holiday weekend, much as you would dislike it BT staff are entitled to get holidays as well.

    The "quote", above, from your last post is:
    a). What BT told you to do in the first place.
    b). What another post told you to do.

    ............your response ? to start swearing and ranting.......AGAIN !

    For your information I have rung BT twice to report this matter to them and they didnt want to know.

    I reported this matter at the begining of May to BT, twice I was told they weren't interested even though it is clearly a case of fraud.

    Dont have a go at me, but its BT's fault for not sorting this out when I first brought it to their attention.

    Funny you didn't mention that before. Telling you to return all the paperwork doesn't sound like "not interested" sounds more like-send it back so we can sort it out. When DID you sent it back ?

    You are automatically assuming it is fraud - Have you considered it might be a simple administrative error -something as simple as the wrong house house number entered eg if you live at 41 and 14 was entered by mistake instead of screaming it must be fraud and how you'll have the bailiffs round. Has it occurred to you that if they want to install a new line then you can simply turn the engineers away when they come to install the line ?

    A week is a reasonable time for BT to respond -especially with a bank holiday in the way. It's not urgent-you haven't lost your phone service or had a bill arrive. If it is an administrative error then BT will need to contact the account holder to check the address details etc-if it is attempted fraud (sounds unlikely tbh -I work for one of BT's competitors and your scenario doesn't really work as the credit check on a business account should throw up the anomaly before the line is active). The account holder could be on holiday or just hard to get hold of (as they don't have a business line ;) ).

    Have you tried looking up the business (as you have the business name) ?

    The nearest business address to which the account holder is using lives in Fareham and I live in Havant.

    Considering I rung them begining of May to report it as I have said in the previous post.

    I have reported this matter to Trading Standards, so if I cant sort it out I can go back to them!!
