I don't know what I am doing, what I should be copying and pasting for anyone to help me but my gas bill has come in for april as £444 for the month
How We Calculate your Gas Consumption
m3 Correction Factor Calorific Value kWh
m3
to kWh Conversion 1233 x 1.02264 x 39.1 ÷ 3.6 13694.935
A correction factor of 1.02264 is applied to account for fluctuations in temperature and pressure of gas in the UK.
The Calorific value is the amount of energy released when gas is burnt. The quality of gas varies slightly every day
so the average Calorific value for the statement period is used when calculating the number of kWh's used.

Last January it was very high, was told by first utility to check my boiler (checked man in works fine)
Paid the £80 over and february was high, rang again, told to check the oven (the only gas we have is oven and boiler) oven man called checked fine
March was high again, told to check daily meter readings myself and have loads infront of me now...
1st april was 97670 for the gast
3rd april 9770
15th april 9773
22nd april 9776
may 9th 9782

We have a portable gas fire that we had on in the evenings not putting the heating on all over the house to save costs and now we have had a £444 gas bill for not putting the heating on, seems amazing to me that it can be that astronomically high and really at a loss as to what to do now...
electricity is fine.

Gas total unit charge 13694.935 kWh 3.04p per kWh £ 416.33
so according to the bill I have used over 1 thousand m3 of gas when it has been off? to the cost of £444?
They did offer to send round a man that looks at the gas box but if it is found to be working perfectly I will be charged £60 call out and £60 service, £120, I can't think of anything else to do, I have done the boiler service at £80, I got the gas man to test the oven (brand new last november) at £60 now what?
If anyone has any help, any ideas, please help, I know for a fact even though the numbers are there on the gas meter box that I never used £444 worth of gas, that is over £100 a week:eek: the terraced house is 3 bed and no mansion or school, just a terraced house, we would have had to be in the tropics of heat to have it on for £100 a week:eek: that is why we bought the gas portable fire to cut the cost not increase it...
Thank you

A bit too much info
What is needed are the Nos from a single bill -
Meter Start Read/Meter End Read/No.of Kwh Charged/Price per Kwh/Daily Charge.
Identify you meter - It will be marked on the front either m3 for a metric meter,
or ft3 for an Imperial meter
The fact that your meter has 5 numbers suggests that it is a Metric meter, but check it
It's possible that your meter is Metric, but your supplier is chargeing as though it's an Imperial model - On the last bill divide the Kwh charged by the No.of Meter Units used - If the answer is appx. 11 you are being charged for a Metric meter, but if the answer is appx. 31 you are being charged for an Imperial meter
If the billing does not match the meter's marking, get onto your supplier immediately0 -
OK, so you have not been with your present supplier long enough to get a bill.
But you do know all the details of your tariff and you can work out what your billing will be so far without doing that damned equation
Deduct the Start Reading of your meter from what it reads now Don't include any figures in Red
You have a Metric meter, so multiply the meter units used by 11.2 which gives a close figure of how many Kwh you will be charged for, add in the Day Charge and plus it all with 5% VAT0
