Metronet are calling me a liar :(

Hello all,
hope this is the correct place for this
I migrated to Metronet a few months ago because as I had heard that they are a good, reliable ADSL provider. Anyway, within the first month I realised that they block a number of sites that I needed for work and leisure. I contacted them to ask if they could unblock these sites and they said that they couldn’t. I then asked them if I could cancel my 3-month contract, as it was important for me to access these. They said that was fine and gave me my MAC number (migration) so that I could migrate to a provider that does not have such problems. I migrated to Pipex and the problem was solved.
However, yesterday I received an invoice of £74 for the remainder of my contract, I replied to Metronet to explain the situation. I expected that this was an administration error and that it would be resolved quickly. To my surprise, they told me that I was expected to pay the invoice and that I must have been misunderstood as they would not have allowed my contract to be cancelled (which they clearly did). I explained the situation again and they replied to tell me that if I didn’t pay up they would "pass the outstanding charges to credit control".
Obviously, I do not want to damage my credit rating. But neither do I want to give into them as they told me that I could cancel my contract, and had they not I would have reluctantly seen the contract out. I would stay clear of Metronet, they are obviously disorganised and they have been nothing short of rude in their contact to me regarding this issue.
Please advise!

Just out of interest, is there anything in their terms and conditions about blocking these websites that you needed to access. If not then it seems that they were in breach of that contract and therefore you did have the right to terminate it without incurring any penalties as they had breached the contract and not you.Do I want it? ......Do I need it? ......What would happen if I don't buy it??????0

I cant see anything on thier website stating any website or port blocking. If they did this without notifying then as Aiadi says they are in breach of the contract. You should be able to leave as thier service is not as advertised. If an ISP blocks somethings, ports/ Websites it should be stated in the T&C so you know before you sign up.
Just give them a call and tell them you are thinking of joining and ask if they block any specific websites and see what they say.0 -
Waggers! This is really concerning! What work and leisure websites were they blocking?0

Full story on this on adsl guide I think.
