I have difficulty with the words straight away (must be in a nice dense mood.... very suitable for testing anything like this!)

"Welcome to my online budget calculator. You can navigate from cell to cell by pointing your mouse and left clicking, alternatively you can move from cell to cell using the tab key on your keyboard. Using the tab key will move you from left to right down each line on the page. You can enter combinations of "Weekly, Monthly or Yearly" values into the table and it will automatically calculate the monthly figure for you. Enter only numerals eg 1,2,3.....9 & 0, you can also enter pence figures using a decimal place eg "275.75"."

Talk of pointing the mouse confuses me. It doesn't "point" (as in having an arrow) when you are over the cell.

How do you go back if you are using the tab, when you see the row before was wrong?

Do you need the word "combinations"?

As with the spreadsheet Martin will add his own words to the finished page. I'm sure he will make sure the writing is clear for it's users, thank-you for the feedback Fran
  • This is fab and it looks the business. It looks very easy to use; I think its great the way you can enter the payment, and it works out the monthly figure.

I have a homemade Works spreadsheet. It does the job, but it doesn't look the part. Also this is more sophisticated (obviously) and I would really like to tranfer to something like this.

I haven't user tested it so I can't comment on its accuracy/reliability (figures/calcs etc), but I'm sure that's all covered.

    Hi Fran.

If you hold down the left shift key and then press tab, it will skip back a step.

    hope this helps,

Thank-you ModToo, I didn't realise you could also skip back using the TAB key. I assume that work's in all MS applications? Brilliant. ;D

  • Hi folks,

For those who want to have a quick play with the online version of the Budget Calculator, please feel free.

We're calling this a Beta version 'cos there's some small changes we want to make.

Many thanks to Tony H who has done a brilliant job with this! ;D

There's a light blue link which will allow you to view the associative guide, this link causes the entire website to load in the centre area Brendan, you might like to amend / remove this link.
The red writing at the bottom is a great idea, which will help to enhance the speed of this online calculator you might consider adding "or after you have completed & want to print this budget out"
  • Well picked Tony, have amended that immediately.

Martin's re-worded the instructions slightly. Could I ask regulars to go and have a look and see if it makes sense to them please?

  • Excellent calculator thank you.

One thing I have noticed is that if in Part A you put a combination of values in for each type of spending (i.e. per week, month and year) - as is sometimes relevant and as the notes say you can do - then the Part B Monthly Total does not add up the total but only counts the 'per week' cell.
