Tony H has finished the first trial version of the Budget Spreadsheet. If regulars fancy testing it out (and trying to see whether it works or has bugs) that'd be a great help

1. It cannot be saved & must be used in one visit.

2. When complete it can be printed (7 pages) so that a hard copy can be kept.

3. Navigation can be done by either a/ using the mouse & left clicking or b/ using the tab key.

Should just add, this is not a spreadsheet. It's a webpage that everyone will / should be able to access with no problems. It's coded using Javascript.

I should be about for the next few hours to answer any questions you may have, don't forget all suggestions are appreciate even if you think it may only be a small problem.
  • Very impressive! ;D

    Will try it out later

I have difficulty with the words straight away (must be in a nice dense mood.... very suitable for testing anything like this!)

"Welcome to my online budget calculator. You can navigate from cell to cell by pointing your mouse and left clicking, alternatively you can move from cell to cell using the tab key on your keyboard. Using the tab key will move you from left to right down each line on the page. You can enter combinations of "Weekly, Monthly or Yearly" values into the table and it will automatically calculate the monthly figure for you. Enter only numerals eg 1,2,3.....9 & 0, you can also enter pence figures using a decimal place eg "275.75"."

Talk of pointing the mouse confuses me. It doesn't "point" (as in having an arrow) when you are over the cell.

How do you go back if you are using the tab, when you see the row before was wrong?

Do you need the word "combinations"?
    Torgwen.......... :) ...........

I think you've done well Tony. I'm sure this will be of use to many people.

I used it with no problems (well, other than the fact I wish there was more coming in! ;))

  • Hi again Tony,

Well 1st time round nearly collapsed.....then realised I'd put big one off's as monthly not yearly! ::)

Achieved 'happiness' second time around. 8)

Very user friendly and helpful, doesn't take as long as expected.

    Many thanks :)

If you are wanting general feedback, I put the Big One-Offs in the yearly column, as by their nature it made more sense than dividing by 12, although I put everything else as monthly.

Anyway in the summary it didn't take account of the yearly column, so gave a false total of zero for this category. The summary bit was headed Monthly expenditure.

Is this a blip or did I do something wrong? If I'd read the instructions would I have seen that you have to stick to one column? Sorry, I should probably just do that, but others might be similarly confused.
    :D I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe :D

  • It did the same for me too I'm afraid.. any suggestions?

    TQ

When I've debugged & reloaded the script you WILL be able to use all 3 columns to enter your values, obviously 1 column per item.
