Took my voucher into my local Mr. M's this morning, and they refused to take it - apparently they have a policy of not taking printed/online coupons.

    :(

Under N.I. law this is classed as a competition where no level of skill is required to enter. Consequently, under a Northern Irish Act passed in 1985 no purchase can be involved at any stage of the process between entering the competition and receiving the prize. Technically, even though you don't ever hand over money you have to purchase the prize (a bottle of Sprite) so it's not allowed in N.I. until a new updated act is passed in 2015, which will allow such promotions in NI. (If Coca Cola posted out bottles of Sprite for free or were to send people to Belfast to hand out bottles of Sprite for free then that would be permitted.)

In Scotland alcohol promotions are banned. This means any alcohol offers have to exclude Scotland.

Thanks for letting me know that ... It seems that customer services at Coca-Cola GB or Coca-Cola NI don't know this either as were unable to give reason for our exclusion , just saying that different regions have different promotions ! lol
What a stupid law !! but then again it doesn't surprise me as we do have some stupid politicians here !

This isn't true at all. My fiance works for them on customer services - the only thing they won't accept is obvious photocopies, but they have accepted internet coupons for a long time now. I would contact their head office about it, they'll order for the store staff to be re-trained, it's been done before. May even send you something for your trouble.

It's usually just uptight jobsworths refusing in individual stores as they've not looked at their own policies properly.

I did my shopping at Mr. M's today and they took 2 internet coupons from me, put them through without batting an eyelid, no trouble at all.

When asked recently on their facebook page, Mr. M's had this to say:

"Most internet coupons for branded products are accepted with a limitation to 1 per person (they cannot be duplicated, copied or reproduced)."

They admitted they didn't have a copy to hand of the entire coupon policy, but this is what they knew for sure regarding internet coupons (and it's the way it worked when I worked on their checkouts).
  • Can anyone confirm what epm-84 has said ...

I have looked up varies literature online to see if this "promotion" applies ...

    marketinglaw.co.uk/marketing-techniques/northern-ireland-finally-allows-purchase-to-enter-prize-draws[/url]

As far as i am able to find it is to do with competitions , not a promotion ... Even if it were a competition then it still would not apply , as it is free to enter .

I am awaiting further reply from Coca-Cola NI , it definitely seems it is down to the fact that the promotion is run by a different region , ie , Coca-Cola GB ... Same would said for a promotion , say for Coca-Cola USA ... We , in UK , would not be entitled to redeem it ...

the other persons right they do take internet coupons,i used to be customer service supervisor till had my little boy so realy annoyed me last week when i went in to store and had one of my ristorante coupons turned down because it wouldnt scan, they said no longer can they imput coupons so if they dont scan they cant take them, got in touch with head office about it and they appologized but said it was right that if it doesnt scan they cant take it,so long as it scans they do,so i caused a big fuss saying they shouldnt be selling promotional packs of pizza if theyre not goin to accept the coupons, didnt get anything from them either accept a half hearted apolgy

Thanks ScarletRaven, TBH I did think it was a bit odd of a big store like Mr. M's. Smaller stores refusing I can understand. Will take your advice. :)

Aha, the photocopying thing might explain why I was asked if it was a copy just before it was refused.

I said no, it's printed and even has my name on it (the cashier was welcome to check that against my debit card I was using to buy my groceries...), but still it was refused.

Still no sign of the postal coupons:mad:

Had to seriously calm me Julie down this morning when she spotted the postie drinking a 500ml of Sprite on his rounds. She was absolutely furious and wanted to confront him with the accusation of thieving our post and using the coupons himself. It took a while to assure her it was just a coincidence the postie happened to be drinking Sprite on a hot day.
