Vodafone - think they are ripping me off - help !

Hi
Please can anyone offer any advice what to do ....
I went on holiday 1/5 I called Vodafone and said I was going to Greece and was this part of the European deal they offer (fixed £3 daily charge to use your existing minutes/plan in europe) the guy said yes he added it to my package and said just turn the phone on and use it and it will just use the minutes/texts from my standard plan.
Roll to today ... I find that vodafone have charged me over £100 in call costs
I called the advisor and she told me it was because the calls were on a Turkish network. I told her we only went to Greece not turkey and that I had called and checked beforehand and was told it was part of the plan. She checked the notes and said yes you have said Greece.
I thought they would then change it to the £3 per day charge but no !!
She said that it was because my phone picked up the Turkish network ... I told her that no one mentioned anything about networks and I jut turned the phone on and used it as advised and I never chose a network. She said shed see what they cold do ... Thy offered £20 credit, I said no as I didn't feel I was responsible, she then came back with 50% discount. I still don't feel this is fair.
I am a single parent and I don't have a flash phone I have a sim only plan as that is cheapest and I ensure I do not go over my allowance.
I am going to go to the Vodafone store tomorrow ... How do you think I should handle this ?
Thanks for any replies .. £100 is a lot of money for me and I really feel like I have been ripped off !

You picked up a turkish network not a Greek network (Guessing you were on Rhodes), Its upto YOU as its YOUR device to pick the correct network

You would have got a text from the Turkish network/Vodafone welcoming you to Turkey

I'd have snapped Vodafones hand off at the 50% offer.

But you can afford holidays to Greece?

Go in and say "I'd like to accept customer services offer of 50% off my roaming costs and here is £50"?

I have just checked and my message says welcome to GREECE and goes on to tell me about my euro traveller rate (£3 fixed charge per day) so I don't think I should snap their hands off.
And yes I can afford a holiday to Greece as I am very careful with my money which I work for and I do have some put away and as I'm in the middle of a divorce I think we deserved a break.
Do you think I should show them the message in store ?

If you dont take the 50 per cent offer you could be left with no offer.
I wouldnt use a mobile phone abroad full stop, or Id buy a pay as you go sim that you could use in the local network and once the credit ran out, done.

Its much easier than coming home and getting hit with charges, when I go abroad (which isnt often), I'll email home rather than phone home.

Normally I do email or Skype but the hotel we were in had no free wifi so I thought this would be a cheap option as my mam is a panic (even though I'm 35) I have to call home and the boys called there dad ..
Don't think I will be usi g euro traveller again though !

If the only message you got is the Greek one then they can't charge you for the Turkish network - the Turkish network would have to send you a message with their prices.

I think the Greek welcome message puts you in a stronger position so yes I would go into the shop and not be fobbed off.

Hold on. How can Voda be responsible if you moved to Turkcel or similar?

Think about it for a minute. You are on a Greek network then it roams to a Turkish one. How does Voda Greece know where you have gone and how can they be responsible if a 3rd party non-EEC network doesn't tell you they picked you up?

But don't worry. In today's blame culture, it has to be someone else's fault.

Take the offer and be more attentive to your handset next time.

Check all your "Welcome to [insert country]!" texts, if there's any Turkey ones check phone usage on detailed bill breakdown between the time you got that text and the next Greece text. On Orange I used to get hundreds of them in central Switzerland and in Geneva I'd sometimes pick up French networkds

if your calls were made on the Greek network your claim is stronger

    good luck!

    Hi mumofthetwins,

I can appreciate that the amount your most recent bill must have come as a surprise.

If you'd like me to take a closer look at things could you email me with your details via the link in our profile here?

All you need to do is copy and paste the link into your web browser and it will take you to the Contact us form on our website. To make sure it reaches me could you also quote the code WRT135 - MSE in the subject line?

Once sent you'll receive an automated reply with a reference number. Could you update the thread with this and I'll get back to you as soon as possible?

    Kind regards,
