Yes, they can be shown as received when they haven't been taken, but the question is, why hasn't it been taken?

Because the Direct Debit is in the process of being taken. It's a three day process. Sometime during the early hours of tomorrow morning the money will disappear from my bank account.

It's not a matter of "why hasn't it been taken?"

My Halifax account is currently showing a balance of £267.70 with £244.72 available.

A difference of £22.98, which are two pending payments to PC World (£9.99 + £12.99).

I guess we'll find out which of us is correct soon. I'll keep you updated.

    Is this the first payment?
If so have you checked what account details they have for you?
It may be that they have set up a direct debit using incorrect account information which has co-incidentally been an active account.

    Bit of a long shot!

Generally though when a direct debit is bounced the receiver is not made aware for approx 3 days.

All of my DDs, the payees manage to figure out when to start the process so that it ends on the due date. If they wanted to be paid on the 17th, there was nothing stopping them.

Oh well. The payment has appeared on my Halifax statement, dated today.

So, the payment wasn't "declined" and I haven't been "hit with charges at both ends", as you speculated.

Labour politicians call it a bedroom tax, but that's because they are a bit thick.
