    Did you do it online or through a branch?

    If online, go in and see them. They should be able to explain to you face to face why you've not been successful.

    I think the OP wants specifics, which they're probably never going to get since the details of credit policy are usually confidential.

    Do you have a UK passport? If not, that might be a reason. I'd pop into a Branch with passport and proof of address (utility bill etc) and see what they can do for you.

    Are you classed as a uk resident?
    It sounds like the application was keyed incorrectly, I would definitely check with Santander.
    Are you a new Santander customer or existing one?

    Just remember in future, the only credit ratings worth anything are those generated by the financial institution which you're applying. When experian start offering financial products their scores may gain some credibility.

    The refusal could be as simple as people with your profile are insufficiently profitable for the bank.

    I think I will send in my reports to the person who refused me and see what they say.
