We've spent a lot of time on this question and you haven't even applied for the job yet!

Get the application pack. It will say whether the job is subject to a CRB check - I'm sure they always tell you before you apply.

Which "local council" is it? I'm surprised they are doing recruitment tests on a Saturday. Is it some kind of recruitment fair? Local authorities are usually so formal and produce a JD, PS and application and equal opportunities forms and then want you to complete the forms rather than just send in a CV.

No harm in asking but you said at first that "I'm sure they do a check" and now we seem not to know whether it will be required. I think a job as a revenue and benefits officer is likely to involve having a CRB check carried out because of the financial work to be done. But, as I indicated earlier, I think they would only be concerned about a conviction which involved financial dishonesty. However, do ensure that you disclose any unspent conviction if you are asked about it on an application form.

Yup, this is certainly the way my employer (a local authority) work ... plus a whole day of assessments ....

we have to have a check at the university if we are working with anyone external and will be on our own (e.g. testing children in schools). when the CRB check comes through the designated person in the department checks it, i assume notes any potential problems (i didn't have any!) and then destroys the copy they are sent. i have my copy filed away, but i imagine i'll need a new one soon anyway.

:) we were also told every 3 years, but it seems that they are being requested far more frequently!! at least we don't have to personally pay for them each time!
