Criminal record check ?

I have asked abt my local council doing a credit check, but what abt a criminal check for prospective employees?I'm sure they do a check, and if so, how many years do they go back?

Check this page for details on the Rehab of offenders act and how long it takes for offences to become spent:

    Good luck!

Thank you, i do think though, even if a conviction is "spent" it shows up!!
The reason I say this, is back in 1996, or there abouts, i was up in court, on something minor, and while i was stood there, someone placed a note under my nose, with my past convictions, from abt 1983!! I was gob-smacked!!I think i just want to save my self from any embrassment!

The person who will receive the confidential report from the CRB will check whether any convictions are relevant to the position for which you have applied.

Have you declared anything which you are required to declare (bearing in mind the job you are applying for) or have you withheld information which should have been declared?

Do you have a conviction for dishonesty? They might be concerned about that.

Do you have a conviction for GBH or possession of a Class A drug with intention to supply? IMO those sorts of thing are less likely to be of interest as far as a revenue and benefits officer is concerned.

The CRB check should only be seen by one person within the organisation, not necessarily within your dept, and should then be kept confidential and destroyed once due consideration has been given to whether or not you are going to be accepted.

I believe you're sent a copy too, so you should know how much there is to be embarrassed about - although in certain limited circumstances the employer will have more information than is on your form. For example if you've been repeatedly investigated for something without there ever being enough evidence to proceed, that COULD be recorded.

Would NACRO be able to advise you?

If they do, I think it may say on their website, where they deal with recruitment? Personally I'd just phone and ask.
