Cutting down door to fit over new carpet

I have just had a new bedroom carpet fitted and this one has underlay too but the door now won't open.
I asked the carpet fitter to remove the door and I have a jig saw. How difficult would it be to do it myself? any tips welcome.

Life is not the way it’s supposed to be. It’s the way it is. The way you cope with it is what makes the difference.

Fairly straightforward. Personally I prefer a circular saw to a jigsaw. Either way take off the absolute minimum. Clamping a straightedge across the door to to run the base of the saw against will help with achieving a level and straight cut.
For precise cuts with a jigsaw I also like to use metal cutting blades. The rate of cut is slower but gives a fine finish.0 -
You could use a planer and finish by sanding down.0

I would go down the planer and sander route to be honest.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
Agreed, use a planer - a jig saw will be tricky to get a nice straight line unless you're very patient.
oh and make sure you plane the right end, it's been known for carpet fitters to remove a door, plane the end and put it back only to find they've shaved the top!

Take as little off as you can, the carpet will settle over time as you wear it!0

+1 for the planer, but go careful as you come to the end of the wood. Ideally stop a couple of inches and plane back from the end. You can end up splitting lumps off the edge of the door if you plane right to the end.0

I would use a planner if its a couple of mm. Its easy to take a door off shove and then plane it, should take no more than 30 mins work#

I said a jigsaw in my op as that is what I have. I don't have a planer in my tool kit. The carpet fitter took the door off for me. It was easy to just mark it out and use the jigsaw. As said it took only 30 minutes or so and it now is back on and opening/closing properly.

Can't you get hinges that lift the door as it opens specifically for these problems.0
