Tyre Company Now Wants Us To Pay VAT After We've Already Paid Bill

Hello, My husband had four tyres replaced yesterday and settled the bill in full immediately fair-and-square after the work was carried out, however a few hours later the tyre company telephoned him and said that they had calculated it wrongly and hadn't charged us the VAT and therefore we now need to pay this to them. I really don't think they can do this, afterall it's not our fault or problem that this unprofessional company are unable to calculate properly. We have already paid in full at the time, getting on towards £300:(. Can anyone help us with this please? Thank you in advance.

What does the bill that you paid say about VAT?0

Thank you for reply. Hubby at work, I've just texted him as to where on earth he's hidden it:mad:. I'm desperately trying to find it now!0

Was he given a price for the tyres before he agreed to the work being done?0

No he wasn't, I actually asked him this when he arrived back home after paying for the tyres, as I was shocked at the price he had just paid out!0 -
Two situations here, if they said 4 tyres £300 please and hubby paid that then contract concluded, they have no right to ask for more.
If they said 4 tyres £300 +VAT please but only charged £300 by mistake then you owe them the VAT.0 -
Agree with bris. Depends what was agreed.
Neither party can change the terms agreed without the others permission. You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -
After speaking to hubby, have now found hand-written receipt attached to the credit card payment receipt. The credit card receipt obviously just states the total sale amount of £284.00.
I'm not sure how to include photos, so I'll explain the attached hand-written receipt/cash sale, handwritten as follows:
4 x (unreadable - type of tyres used no doubt) - Unit Price - £66.00. Amount = £264.00.
4 x "V & Bl" (hubby thinks this means Valves and Balancing??) - Unit Price - £5.00. Amount =20.00.
At the bottom of Receipt/Cash Sale:
Sub Total: (left empty)
VAT at 20%: (left empty)
TOTAL DUE: £284.00.
It is signed (once again unreadable signature) by someone too.
It is £284.00 in total, which was the amount paid as stated on the attached credit card receipt. The individual prices above must have included the VAT.0 -
Nothing more to pay.
If the bottom three lines had looked like:
Sub Total: £284.00
VAT at 20%: (left empty)
TOTAL DUE: (left empty)
Then the answer may've been different.
It's the fact that the TOTAL DUE line states... err... the total due, and that amount has been paid.0 -
Just don't complain about Amazon, Google or Starbucks in future. If you fold it in half, will an Audi A4 fit in a Citroen C5?

Thank you very much for your help Wealdroam, that's what I thought too. :beer:0
