vodafone freebee pay as you go
I was all for joining vodafone pay as you go on the freedom freebee where you get 200 mins 600 texts and 100mb data for £15 a month.
However this seems a very poor amount of data allowance when you can pay £15 on tmobile and get 200 mins 600 texts and 2gb of data - 20 times as much, also on Orange you get the £15 credit that you can effectively turn into 200 mins by buying 2 x 100 min extras at £7.50 each and you also get 600 texts and 2gb of data.
Even tmob and orange give some mins/texts and 1gb of data on a £10 top up but on vodafone its only a dreadful 50mb on £10 top up.
Vodoafone has slightly better coverage than ee for me so it's a dilemma who now to choose, but hopefully vodafone might update the freebees allowances unless they're ok with potentially lots of people switching elsewhere for much more benefits for the same price.

The first step is to decide how much data, calls and texts you are likely to need, then determine the company with the cheapest relevant bundles.
You may find that virtual mobile operators are the cheapest.
If vodafone has the best coverage in your area, consider Ovivo (runs on the vodafone network).
Ovivo (PAYG) give you a free allowance of 150 minutes, 200 texts and 500mb each month. Yes £0 per month.
So if you only use no more texts/mins/mb than that, why are you considering paying £15 per month to vodafone and only getting 100mb (which you are almost certain to run over)?
If you really need more than this, there are other operators that give you much more for less than a tenner.0 -
Thankyou for the information I hadn't thought about the virtual operators as thought they were more for international callers who make lots of calls overseas. The ovivo sounds quite good at £0. I'm at the end of a 2yr contract this month at what was £32 a month but found on average only used roughly 700 - 1200mb & between 180 - 210 mins and around 150 txts. Don't want a contract again and so keeping my handset and thought payg a better option. The first step is to decide how much data, calls and texts you are likely to need, then determine the company with the cheapest relevant bundles.

You could consider the Ovivo Rhino deal which gives you 250 minutes, 400 texts and 750mb. This is not free as it is a larger allowance and costs £7.50 per month (but is PAYG so you can leave anytime). [Actually it is the Ibis deal not Rhino - sorry my mistake.]
For months when you need more than 750mb, Ovivo charge 16p per mb outside your allowance, so unless you can cut back or use wifi this still wouldn't be right for you (unless you get a 2nd Ovivo sim and swapped it part-way through the month and used the free data allowance on the second sim).
Ovivo do have advertising when you use the internet on their free allowance - not sure what happens with their paid packages like Rhino, but you could ask always ask them.
Another PAYG possibility is Giffgaff (on O2 network). £10 bundles (250 minutes, unlimited texts, and 1,000mb) or £12 bundle (250 minutes, unlimited texts and unlimited internet, but no tethering).
You can also get sim only contracts (not PAYG) with other networks like 3 or virgin which give you lots of calls, texts and data for around £7 to £10.0
