Leaving Vodaphone whom wont allow contract takeover.
Here goes, I do hope somebody can confirm I have been treated lawfully as this is all new to me.
I took over a Vodaphone contract as a favour to a friend over a year ago. It was put in my name and address. All was fine until yesterday when I saw a fabulous deal with T Mobile, I had to take it. I signed up and set about the change today. With only two months left on the Vodaphone contract, I had hoped my husband could take it over and use the minutes etc until it ended. How wrong could I be, on asking for the pac code they advise I have to pay the remainder of the contract off and it will be closed down. No name change, no transfer. Kaput. I have to wave goodbye to £86.
Surely this is wrong?
Thanks in advance of any help.

No, it isn't wrong. Porting the number out terminates the contract - it's a norm for all networks. So far I've seen only one isolated report that some network made an exclusion and allowed to keep the old account with some new number.0

Surely if its for your husband you can just keep it in your name and he can use it? What's his is yours, and yours is his and all that......0

As Grumbler said using a pac code will terminate the contract and therefore there will be no contract for your husband to take over. Vodafone are not acting unlawfully.
Finacially you are no throwing away £86 because you would pay this anyway over the remaining term of the contract. When you pay an early termination fee you pay no VAT which would normally be included when you are billed for your line rental so you would actually be 20% better off than if you paid the line rental as it falls due.0 -
Do T-Mobile allow you to port a number in mid-contract like Vodadone do?
If so, just let hubby have the new SIM till your contract runs out, then use it yourself and get T-Mobile to port in your number.0 -
That isn't incorrect. Porting the variety out ends the agreement - it's a standard for all systems. So far as I've seen only one separated review that some system created an exemption and permitted to keep the old consideration with some new variety.0

Many thanks for all your replies. I'm a little clearer now.
In answer to Lottie, they would not allow my husband to take over the contract as I was taking with me my old number, which was necessary and nor would they let me just 'change the number' to his to see out the Contract.
ESUHL came up with a brilliant thought;

I may be a little late now, but thank you.
I suppose I kind of new, right or wrong, these contracts have you by the short and curlies.
Still I have a great new deal with TMobile.
Thank You again.0 -
