A pre-paid card seems the best option then, my experience with Fairfx is the same as Mr Wang's, no problems anywhere although I use a Metro Bank card now.
(Other cards are available)
Unless you are spending a lot of money they might be very little in total costs and charges between the top few pre-paid cards.
£3000 according to the OP. So, a decent saving can be made.0 -

You didn't bother to read the first post??
ICE GBP gives you some protection with an extra card. Kalixa used prudently can give the best value.0 -
If you are going to use a prepaid card they will all charge you
(obviously) but in different ways.
By the exchange rate they give, the cost of the cards(s) if applicable,
the ATM charges, if applicable and a number of other permutations.
The charges vary from time to time and the exchange rates obviously vary - the card issuers do have to make a living.
One must figure out the best card for one's own pattern of spending/withdrawals, and always have a back-up.
Reliability and customer service is also very important but more difficult to judge except by recommendation, I have already given mine based on my experience.0 -

Deleted the rest of your rubbish as it will soon disappear anyway.
Everyone who is anyone knows that the Prepaid card section is woefully inadequate.
It never listed the Cash Passport Globe when that card was clearly the best and.... where on earth is the Kalixa card??
The one reason why I think that best cards are not listed there, is that they have decided not to list any Global use cards at all. So the Fairfx Anywhere is not listed either.
You are just an embarrassment to yourself. Firstly in your wildly inaccurate claims, secondly in your poor use of language, thirdly, in your quoting of that badly flawed article and lastly on your pathetic attempt to justify the use of a distinctly average card by suggesting that you and Bob have "covered one third of the world on it".
How ridiculous! It doesn't make you look particularly savvy using a prepaid card that charges 1.4% and a ATM withdrawal charge for your 'extensive' travel.
You might as well recommend HSBC because they are a big bank and reliable.
Many who obtained the FairFx Anywhere did so to avoid the Ryanair fees. I still have over £100 sitting on mine, tucked away in a drawer.
Don't know about yourself, but I spend more than half the year abroad, so decent card products are important to me.
That's why I don't use a Prepaid card at all anymore and if I did, it certainly would not be the FairFx Euro.
I know that you think that you are well travelled and somehow it makes you an authority. But you are not and that is made even more clear by your claim that Fairfx is the best.
The British school system really let you down. Good that Martin is championing financial education in schools.
Simple examples for you. If they used the Fairfx for purchases only, they would incur £42 of charges on their £3k. Kalixa £0. If they could withdraw £300 at a time. Kalixa's charges would total 0.75%, Fairfx Anywhere 1.73%. Never cheaper.0 -
You see, when you buy currency you purchase it at a rate set by the provider. One might give you $1.50 and another might give you $1.47 (are you following?) ok so absorb that info then come back to me for lesson 2 - How to deal with differing opinions without getting stroppy
Again, deleted the rest of your rubbish so that we can stick to discussing the financials.
What has any of this to do with Singapore and Bali? Are you suggesting that the OP buys a US$ card to visit these places?? If not, your analogy makes no sense at all. Perhaps you can explain it to us in a more simple way, since you claim that you know best
My suggestion is to use a Global card that does not tamper with the exchange rate set by Mastercard/Visa at all. No need to change from £ to US$ to $S/Rp.
But there are no Global cards listed in the Money Saving article at all.
So regardless of that, you still refer to that article as the best source of information. Cringeworthy.
Oh, the irony :rotfl:
Waiting for you to discuss the financials without getting 'stroppy'.0 -
I've looked into them all and think I'm going to get a kalixa card and try to limit the number of atm withdrawals in Singapore and bali. Thank you for the help0

I'll send you their Promo Code via PM. It waives the £6.95 initial charge. Not sure if it still works, but you can give it a try.0
