Do you want a village with a rail station, or a proper town?
    Been away for a while.

You will probably find that what you save in mortgage payments you lose in season ticket prices. So your monthly outgoings may not actually reduce that much, but you will be buying a house worth less.

That said, living outside London does have other advantages.

Yes, and also 'good transport' can mean any of the following:

    Cheap transport
Hassle free transport (i.e. less busy)
    Quick transport
    Out of hours/late transport

Half an hour from Ashford International to Stratford International (on HS1), so that opens up a lot of Kent. Although HS1 has pushed prices up.

    Not it hasn't.

EA's might have tried to use it to push prices up (or rather, not to drop them as they fell nationally) and managed to fool a few people into overpaying, but overall the trend in house price changes, over the relevant period, in the towns served by HS1 has matched others in the outer SE.

Er, I don't know really.:) I was thinking about somewhere on the C2C line as that is a very good service so Leigh-on-sea as I said or Thorpe Bay. I just wondered if there were other places that were nice like those areas but cheaper and still an hours commute away to somewhere like West Ham.

I also thought maybe moving somewhere you can get easily to Romford as we have family near there. Shenfield maybe?

I know it's such an open question, I just thought maybe someone would live in such a place and say "Move here, it's great, the houses are 200k and it's an hour's commute to East London.":D

I think you'd get a better response if you gave more info.

When you say East London... where? Completely different lines for say Chingford or East Ham. Same for South. Romford is Essex, so not sure if that's what you meant when you said East...

Tell us where you need to get to (or which stations, at least), and more will help :)

Shenfield is very expensive, so probably out of the equation.

What exactly do you need in a house? List of essentials, please :)

I just read (what I think) was your post on the other thread and I remembered I got stranded at Shenfield station on a winter's night when I went on a course for work, I had completely forgotten that.:(

I'm not sure what I'm doing actually and this thread has made me realise I'm not sure where I want to move to.
