200K house with links to S and E London?

This is probably a silly question but is there a relatively nice area that you can buy a house for £200,000 and get good links to South and East London by public transport?:)
I am overpaying my mortgage at the moment but I am thinking about moving to a house outside of the stupid London prices eventually. We don't drive so we would need good transport links.
I really don't know many areas outside South and East London. Is there a nice place to move where you could be in East London (for our family) within an hour?
Thanks

I'll say have a look at the London Connections tfl map. Essex and Kent should work for you.0

Thanks, I will check that.:)
I wondered if people actually knew or lived in areas close to London and which ones were nice though?:o I really don't know much outside of London.0 -
Anyone?:)
I was thinking about Leigh-on-sea on the C2C line but it is quite expensive and I would be looking at £250,000 or more.0 -
Dartford? 3 different train routes into London and reasonable prices.0

Okay, thanks. I will look on Rightmove and see. I knew someone who lived there and it's meant to be quiet I think.:)0

I would suggest Rochester which has some nice areas and fast trains into London0

What sort of house are you hoping to get? Two or three beds? dining kitchen or would you cope with a galley?
You get quite a lot for your money in some parts of West Sussex that have good transport links. I was considering Haywards Heath/Horsham/Crawley but couldn't crowbar my partner outside the M25Common sense?...There's nothing common about sense!0 -

The transport links aren't good if you use First Capital Connect. And trains go in to Victoria so would involve a cross-town trek over to SE London, probably on the District & Circle line which is also awful. Possibly Jubilee depending on where OP wants to get to and that line is crammed during rush hour.Warning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac0 -
Half an hour from Ashford International to Stratford International (on HS1), so that opens up a lot of Kent. Although HS1 has pushed prices up.Warning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac0

Depending on where exactly in London you need to get to you may not need to go into Victoria but could change at Clapham Junction or London Bridge.
What is 'good' in terms of transport is quite objective and depends a lot on what you're used to - if someone is used to living a five minute tube ride from work then an hour will seem quite bad; if you're used to a longer commute with multiple changes then an hour journey with one change will seem good. I've done commutes of over three hours a day return, so for me under an hour with one change is good!Common sense?...There's nothing common about sense!0
