moving to sky, email from O2

decided to move to sky for phone and BB.
Called today and signed up (with sky for telly).
Sky said not to call BT (current phone) or O2 (current BB) as they would sort it all out.
Within a few hours I have had this email from O2
"BT has told us they're about to cancel your landline. If this happens, we'll have to cancel your O2 Home Broadband too.
If you didn't know that your line was being cancelled, you'll need to get in touch with BT to find out why. Or if you do know why it's happening, we need to talk to you soon.
What to do now
Call our team on 0800 230 0202.
We need you to return your router to us within 30 days to avoid a charge being applied. We will send you a pre-paid envelope to return it in.
If we don't hear from you in the next few days, we may suspend your account. If you've called in the last few days, ignore this email.

What's this about then? Can they ask for my old router back (been with them for years)? Can they really just disconnect my BB? I'm so busy, don't fancy calling them at all. Sounds a bit threatening to me.

Yes it was always rented from them as long as you had BB from them. Can they really just disconnect my BB? I'm so busy, don't fancy calling them at all. Sounds a bit threatening to me.
How else do you expect them to transfer your phone and BB over to them?
Obviously Sky have contacted BT to inform them that you're about to switch your phone to Sky. You cannot have O2 BB on a Sky phone line so O2 have contacted you to tell you that.0 -
I did exactly the same as you on Monday and recievd the same email from O2 on Tuesday, gave them a call and explained the situation ws told there would be no need to return the router and also gave them the date for activation of my Sky BB and phone line so i wouldnt lose my current BB until then.Still waiting for a callback from Sky 3 days later to sort out advance payment for line rental as they were having "Technical issues".Also gave 31 days notice for cancellation of movies and sports to Sky.0

That's a change of policy then. They always insisted that you return the router and would charge you if not returned.0 -

Can I ask why?
Were you not happy to get 12 months free broadband from O2.
Do you realise that you would eventually be transferred from O2 to Sky automatically, as Sky have now bought all O2's home BB customers.
You certainly like to make life difficult for yourself don't you!
Regarding the return of the router, only certain models need to be returned, if they have asked then they want it back. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
why? Basically it was cheaper - getting free unlimited BB for 1 year with sky.
Was paying £15ppm to O2 for BB - used to be £7.50 as I was an O2 mobile customer, but now have left so BB was the only thing I had with O2.
Didn't bother calling o2 to see if they would match the offer. Why should I bother? If they were willing to do a deal like that, they should have called me.
Neither here no there. Don't mind handing back the router if I can find it. Been using my own router/modem.0 -
I'm with BE (related to O2, both part of Telefonica) who are also being sold to Sky ... we've been told that anyone leaving can now keep their routers. I'd be surprised if O2 were acting any differently.0

Shame that you were so tired to make that call. Many got free unlimited Broadband for a year plus either a £200 mobile phone bill credit or £100 in M&S vouchers.0
