Help an Aussie

Hi All.

I'm coming back to the Motherland from Aus with Mrs Generali in a few weeks. We both have iPhones, 1 3GS (normal SIM) and 1 iPhone 4 (mini SIM). Both are unlocked.

We want to get a PAYG SIM each for our 3 week visit. We'll probably spend an hour or two on the phone each (perhaps a few minutes of which will be to Aus) and maybe use 1GB of data each.

Any suggestions for the cheapest option for us? I have a UK bank account and UK address that I can use if needed.

giffgaff might be good. They are cheap & you can get bolt on's for internet. If you get a sim from an existing member, you get £5 free credit when you first top up.

Thinking about convenience: if you haven't managed to get a SIM card delivered to your address by the time you arrive in the UK, you can pick them up in Poundland, which you're never too far away from:

The price difference between the different PAYG offerings over 3 weeks with moderate usage is unlikely to affect the cost of your overall visit by more than a few percentage points :)

Yup. A lack of aggro is as important as the price.

As I say, I'm doing a little business here and the rest of it will be the 'Where are you, Oh I see you at the other end of the bar' type conversations.

Is top up simple? Can I do it at Tesco or something?

You can too up virtually anywhere, any supermarket, post office or corner shop that has Pay Point.

You can pick up a sim card for free at most small independent phone shops (the type that sell covers and do unlocks and repairs).

If you can't get a GiffGaff or Ovivo sim (they need posting) consider a 3 sim, you can get 3000 texts, 300 minutes and unlimited data for £15 which is valid for 30 days.
