Quentin,
please provide a link to where it says "a contactable address" and not
"you must inform the DVLA of any change in your circumstances"What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?0 -

www.dft.gov.uk/dvla/forms/~/media/pdf/leaflets/INF1D.ashxThe address on the licence must be a GB home address at which you can be
contacted.

You provide us a link that it's a legal requirement to have the same address on your dl as the vehicle's address. (Don't waste your time looking, there are none)0 -

I'm not the one accusing people of scaremongering.
DVLA say you must tell them if your details change.
Insurance companies want a license at the address the car is registered to (personal experience).
Either prove your point through an offical government website or stop dragging this thread off track with another personal attack. What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?0 -

Thanks a sensible response without the ego.
As said, I know you can have more than one address, I already made that point for those with holiday homes etc but most people don't so the best practise (and I would say best advice) is to have it at your current or main home address.
Stops people registering their car in a wee seaside town when they live in the middle of Liverpool or something with a high insurance post code.
I'm pretty sure that's why companies like this http://www.bikesure.co.uk/faqs.php?catid=3&faqid=64
Are saying you need to give them a license for the address you are registering the bike at. If it doesn't it can be a lot of grief. That's all I'm saying. Based on personal experience and I write that as someone who avoided it for as long as possible and (again as said) only changed it because of the insurance issue.
EDIT to add - last word on the issue from me.What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?0 -

That link has got it wrong as well, it is not an offence if you do not have your current address on the licence as long as you can be contacted at the address that is on it.
It may just be a requirement of that particular company, most only want to know where you live and where the vehicle is normally kept.0 -

This isn't a personal attack at all.
You are giving poor and incorrect advice, and getting corrected. That's all.0 -
Can I chip in, that I still have my paper licence, which bears my RM PO Box address. Only once did a police check query it, and I was able to correct the assertion hat it has to my 'home' address.
As all my V5's also bear this address, I value my privacy and will not let petty bureaucracy try to change what's not broke!0 -

According to DVLAs leaflet INF1D, they will not accept a PO Box address (although they may have in the past).0
