This may only be relevant to subscribers in their first 12 month contract, but I’ve just been looking at my Sky+ T&C (I’m barely 2 months into a 12 month contract) and on page 9, entitled ‘Sky+ Subscription Terms And Conditions’ point 2.3 states the following (my splits, bold and comments):

“We may supply extra features or functionality which you will not have to pay for.”
    - Which is what, as reported here, a number of Sky CS reps have stated that the On Demand service is.

“We can withdraw these features or functionality without giving notice to you. We can also change any such feature or functionality into one that you must pay for if you want to continue to receive it.”
    - Which is what they’ve just done.

If we do this in respect of a feature or functionality during the Minimum Term you shall continue receiving that feature or functionality without payment until the end of your Minimum Term. If we introduce any optional or stand-alone features or functionality that we wish to make an extra charge for, we will tell you what charge will apply if you wish to continue to receive that feature or functionality.”
    - So as I see it, despite the clause that states that they can withdraw these features or functionality without giving notice to you, if you are within the Minimum Term you should still get access to the full on demand feature or functionality without paying any extra.

Is this too simplistic a view? Thoughts and comments please...

It would be correct, but the contract was changed to reflect these changes in November/December 2012 as that was when they announced this would be happening in May 2013.

Well the T&C I received with the new contract I took out 2 months ago contains the clause as I have written it above...

We still are with Sky in SD on an old Sky+ box- we have seen the number of programmes available on Anytime go from around 30 to 2 weekly in the past few months.
  • Just like to share my experience of ringing to cancel Sky TV due to the Entertainment Extra + changes/loss of boxsets.

Spoke to a charming individual in cancellations called Richard who could only be described as some kind of passive/aggressive attack dog ,who proceeded to lecture me down the phone about my reasons for cancelling sky tv.!

He asked me questions and butted in before I could respond. He told me Freeview as alternative to Sky was rubbish, he couldn't accept my reason for wanting to leave without debating it with me further.

He asked why I was bothered as I still got the majority of On demand stuff regardless of boxsets.!He asked me to actually name what boxsets I used to watch, I said I was sorry he had put me on the spot and I couldn't remember which ones but he kept on about it.!So I said I liked !the freeview boxsets, to which Tricky Dicky replied 'there are no freeview boxsets'. I then had to name them so he would believe they existed 'Mrs Biggs' (ITV) & 'IT Crowd' (Channel 4) were the 2 I remembered.!

I then told him I just wanted to cancel and he said I had to listen to his offers, at this point I said I was phoning from work and didnt have time. He kept trying to draw me back into an argument about how much better Sky was than Freeview to which I just kept saying 'don't care I just want to cancel'.

All of this amounted to the biggest mindmess/head @#$# I think I have ever experienced on a telephone call.!I mean I expected to be not let go without being persuaded but not an all out verbal fight.

Pretty disgraceful way to treat your long standing customers and I can only assume they are wheeling attack dog Richard out in an attempt to make us hang up in tears and not quit or be so warn out following his tirade that we take the deal.!

Methinks a few customers must have already given this as the reason for cancelling, hence why Richard gets on the case. Stuck in a broadband contract till July now or it would be Sianara Sky once the months notice is up.

Anytime doesn't exist anymore, it's now "On Demand". Sounds like you need a new Sky+

No obligation to listen to offers exists- indeed, there are 3 alternative methods of cancellation to telephoning in Sky's terms & conditions, as noted in the thread "The assault course of trying to cancel sky!"

I think most people are willing to listen to a point to options/offers, but sometimes have limited time and want Sky to "just get on with it" and do what's been requested.

This is also relevant to customers who are seeking to downgrade rather than leave Sky, in my view, and who don't want to engage in a debate about every minor change they make to their products/services/packages, just because it happens on occasions to reduce Sky's revenue.

It's an old Pace box- having been with Sky seemingly since time began it's frustrating that all we are offered is the same deal (or worse) as new customers.
