Would my contract company lock my handset? HELP!

Hi all,

Have a Nokia 6300 on contract with o2. I'm in dispute with them & will shortly be moving to 02 pay as you go.

Call me a bit thick here-but can o2 contract physically lock the handset & stop me inserting an o2 pay as you go sim, ie in practice making the hanset completely un-usable?

Not as far as Im aware because you own the phone, they own the simcard.

yes...the contract is for the sim card...

the phone is often "FREE" when you take the contract out but may be a bit of a grey area if you don't finish your contract

So I take it from that that the phone itself CAN'T be locked/stopped by o2?

The phone is yours, subject to the condition that you complete your contract. Once complete, you can keep it and put what you like in it. If you end the contract early, they could in theory demand it back or money for it, or the money due to complete the contract (which I think is the more likely).
Networks can kill phones by banning the imei number but that's really only used for phones reported stolen.
What's the dispute?
