Here is my suspect - my friend thinks it looks like an ordinary elder.
this pic is of neither ash or elder or ground elder
it is a tree sapling/seedling - most probably beech or hornbeam - tricky to id at early stage of growth without knowing what other trees are in the area - certainly not elm though or elder.saving money by growing my own - much of which gets drunk
made loads last year :beer:0 -
:beer:Have you booked your flight on the Hindenburg yet?

re ash seedlings - if the ash die back disease is defo in your area - then please do remove (with due care) seedlings
if ash is healthy in you area - then don't eradicate all - it is a useful wood (in the garden, for tool handles, firewood etc) and it really would be a disaster if ash was eradicated from our shores completely
i know that people that want prestine gardens don't want rouge tree saplings growing here there and everywhere - but don't kill them if they are healthy - give them away on freecycle or something similar - our country would not be quite the same without the ash tree :cool:saving money by growing my own - much of which gets drunk

Yes now you mention it it does look like a hornbeam!
Off to google.
Better move it anyway - might pot it up.
Thanks. Here dead we lie because we did not choose
To live and shame the land from which we sprung.
Life, to be sure, is nothing much to lose,
But young men think it is,
And we were young.
