Selling a flat with a small kitchen

Hello
We're not planning on moving for a couple of years but I want to do up our 4 sq mtr kitchen.
Question: What's more desirable in a small kitchen an upright fridge freezer or maximum counter space?
Thanks!

for me counter space"Do not regret growing older, it's a privilege denied to many"0

Upright Fridge/freezer gives you 5/600mm less counter space but 2 separate under counter appliances would use up more storage space.
I like counter space but how many unit will it leave you with?
I was having a discussion about utilising the space above the wall units in my high ceiling kitchen today. Other half says you couldn't reach, typical lazy thought. Germans would have some pull out ladder, pull down shelf device invented.0 -
have you anywhere else such as a store room where you could put a freezer"Do not regret growing older, it's a privilege denied to many"0

Visit some kitchen fitters and get them to do some designs for you so you can see what'd look best. Then scarper, don't buy .... just use it as an exercise in understanding the choices.
And./or - draw a plan of your kitchen and post the question, with a picture, on the relevant forum on this website, I've seen people doing this loads of times before.0 -
I have a small kitchen with a built in fridge. I have a chest freezer to the side which comes in handy as it is pretty much used as an extra counter, albeit at the moment for herb plants.0

Without seeing pictures its a bit difficult......
However a general design principle is not to block the eyeline. Therefore an under the counter model would be better. This would allow more worktop space and "open up" the room, making it look lighter and bigger.0 -
fridge freezer for me0

Since you are not planning to move for a couple of years I would go for what you prefer.
If you were selling straight away I would go for the under counter option as the room will look more spacious at first viewing. But I would position it on the end of a run where a fridge freezer could go. Then on second viewing if the purchasers have a fridge freezer, and they notice they won't be able to fit it in, you can point out that they could remove the worktop above the fridge to fit in their fridge freezer.0 -
Ikea website has a 3d kitchen design tool, use it to visualise then buy where you like

I have a lot of counter space in my current kitchen and barely use half of it. But I have a small fridge (not even undercounter, just a small upright) which drives me crazy as it doesn't fit a full week's shop. My previous kitchen was about half the size but the fridge was twice as big as it was a very tall model. I was much happier with that kitchen!
And I definitely agree with a previous poster about using the full wall height to maximise storage. This was done in my previous flat. I'm not tall so couldn't reach the top shelf, but put things that didn't need to be accessed that often (cake tins, etc) up there.0
