No washing machine! I'm in loads of debt! and stuck.

So my machine machine has broken and this time it's gone completely, I did have a scare about 2 months back with it.

Anyway I'm in debt and don't know what to do.

Does anyone know anything about which is the best one to get? Our dryer also broke! and we do need one for emergencies!

Do washer dryers work and what can I do to save my debt free wanabe status!!!! :-(

Is this one actually any good, do you know?

Thanks in advance, :(

I would try freegle or freecycle first.

We gave a decent one away on there recently and I've seen others offered. Or Facebook pages - we sold one for £40 which was nearly new.

Try gumtree. What about your local auction house? If they sell whitegoods, they could be worth a look. I've seen washers and dryers go for £20 a piece.

Wash your clothes in the bath by hand and hang them on the line...its summer and the sun shines reasonably often. Believe it or not washing in the bath is at least as effective as a washing machine and takes less time. Soap flakes are cheap as chips from the supermarket and it wont take you very long to do a load as nothing is very soiled.

Meanwhile, save up some money and buy a cheap one or get one from Freegle.

£379 is a lot for a washing machine. I've had washer dryers in past and not been impressed with them to be honest. You can get a washing machine for under £160.
Paid off the last of my unsecured debts in 2016. Then saved up and bought a property. Current aim is to pay off my mortgage as early as possible. Currently over paying every month. Mortgage due to be paid off in 2036 hoping to get it paid off much earlier. Set up my own bespoke spreadsheet to manage my money.

Get a second hand /free if possilble Miele ( I've had mine for 19 years and it's never broken down ) It's a washer not a washer dryer, I don't like washer dryers, you have to take half the washing out to use it as a dryer. I have used them on holidays. Driers use loads of electricity, I prefer a line and pegs any day.

I work for the NHS not Miele by the way :)

I second this. We had a washer dryer, the dryer wouldn't dry after a relatively short space of time (but out of warranty, typically).
Once the washer bit started going wrong we swapped for a cheapo washing machine - 10 years on its still going strong. Always dry outside as driers are HORRENDOUSLY expensive, and on an airer or radiators on wet days. Its free and better for the environment! (and makes your wash smell lovely)
I'd definitely agree with looking on freecycle etc, then in the future when you can afford to, you can change it.
For anyone trying to save money I would also recommend soap nuts instead of laundry liquid/powder!! have a look on ebay and buy a small trial pack to see how you get on! :)

    Paydbx 2016 - £6487.31/£7000 = 92.67% - number 74

I got my washing machine, looked new, for £100 from one of those charity shops that are in some places these days and sell furniture/white goods. They delivered too, for £20 (about 6 miles)

I've rarely ever had a washing machine - used to washing by hand and drip drying/drying outside/using an over the bath airer or airer in the bath/room.
