We bought a new one when we moved about 18months ago, I decided to just get whatever I wanted as I love washingI decided that the additional £200-£300 for a miele or dyson etc wasnt really worth it and in the end got a large load size hotpoint one for about £350. I think anything more than that (I might have gone up to £400) is too much.
Also, I specifically chose one with a quick wash option, a 30 degree wash takes 38 mins and im happy with that!
Thanks for the reply although I am not sure I agree- from what I hear, the Miele for instance is all round economical and lasts for ever- if I could find one at the £350 mark that was good I'd be more than happy. I think the problem with machines is that one mans feast is anothers poison- all the reviews have widely conflicting experiences as I said- it's genuinely hard to make a sound decision -however you are entitled to your opinion.now debt free and determined to maintain good spending habits and build savings0 -
I have a Bosch and its on everyday, had it for five years and has a big drum for duvets to fit in and more washing per cycle is less energy in my mind - totally subjective and no research although came with good eco credits. Fingers crossed I won't have to replace soon but it's been brilliant so far
can't help with cheap alternatives though.

My washing machine broke last year and I replaced it with what I had in my emergency fund (£250) I got cashback & free delivery and got a decent 8kg drum for £230.
I disagree that a good washing machine needs to cost the earth.
My tumble drier broke last month and i've used the washing line outside when weather permits and the airers inside when it doesn't (airers free from freecyle)
I agree also that washer/driers not the best ..I had one years ago and it had so many things go wrong with it I threw it out after 3 years (and numerous repairs) I wouldn't go down that route. If you have money i'd buy a decent-ish washing machine within budget now and then save for a drier for next winterMORTGAGE BALANCE when we moved Aug 2024, £120,000. January 1st £118,267.06. I purchased a Bosch today.
It's the black one in the Argos sale.
It should have been £239.99.
But I got free delivery
It was reduced by £30.00
So that made it £209.99
I then had an Argos card voucher for £20.00
So after all of that it cost me £189.99
I have to repay the Argos card (credit) but I will do that!
It's 6 months interest free, but I should clear it the end of this month.
So all in all feel like I got a good deal and I liked the black washing machine and it's a better name than Argos own brand :-)0 -
