BT "Payment Processing Fee" !!!!!!?!?!

silverchair - I pay my credit card by Direct Debit, it is never the same from one month to the next I never have to authorise a change to the DD amount. Worth noting that I personnally think DD is a wonderful little invention - I spend a lot of time away (and have a rotten memory), as a consequence all of my bills are paid by DD - Means I never get red letters beacuse I have forgotten to pay something.0

WELL IF YOU CAN'T BEAT 'EM...........my (grudging) response has been to sign up for DD, AND go for paperless billing with the result that I'm now £3/quarter BETTER off than before all this began - £10/qu line rental instead of £11.
In addition there are no call charges as I'm on AOL Talk which gives me free UK landline calls 24/7 for 6 months with no service charge (and no time commitment so can cancel after the free 6 months)
The thing is you can beat them - i refused point blank to pay by DD and said i would pay my bill online instead because it's a direct transaction and because i will be doing the office work myself they should pay ME £5 a month for saving them money.
Guess what? They couldn't prove that paying online was costing them £5 a month so they scrapped the charge for 12 months and said they will be happy to waver it in future. :rotfl:0 -
so i take it if you phone up and complain they will waiver the £4.50 charge?0
-
Yes I gave them a right moan over the phone, and they refunded that charge and waived the £60 cancellation charge they added on when I left them. They are a total shambles, call and adamantly refuse to pay it.
call one of the landline numbers not that horrible 0800 one or u will be on the line till doomsday0 -
I wrote to them (more effective in writing because it has to be responded to thoroughly) and i asked for an invoice just for the handling fee with a breakdown of exactly what it was about ME paying MY bill from MY account that was costing them £5 a month.
At first Virgin Media were silly enough to lie to me and tell me that it was because my bank charges them £5 to take the money out of my account every month so i demanded proof in writing of what my bank charges them - obviously they couldn't prove anything bvecause they were lying & knew it.
I think they rely on people getting fed up with not getting a straight answer & giving up, but my trump card was to ask them for specific invoices just for the £5 detailing what they spent it on and explaining in writing how me paying my own bill online doing all the work for them was costing them £5 a month.
Just back them into a corner like i did & don't be fobbed off.0 -
I have to agree with the anti DD crowd. Why should I give another company full access to my money so they can take what they like, without warning. Lots of companies, like my opticians, my work union and my insurance, all of whom need the exact same amount of money each month, refuse standing orders and demand direct debits. Why? Because I can cancel a standing order, but have to
a)cancel a dd with the bank
b)cancel it with the company and
c)prove the company recieve the cancellation so that I can get reimburdes if they pull anything more out!
PS I have been informed that banks cannot charge anyone more for using a certain method of payment, hence the discount if you pay by DD. Careful wording there.0 -
I don't see why I should be paying a charge so other people can pay by Direct Debit. To imply that it actually costs them this amount is a joke, if it costs them money then they should be charging for paying by direct debit as well. Any costs incurred and I think £4.50 is too high should be absorbed by the costs of the service.
Would you pay by Debit/Credit card in a shop if they passed on the 2/3% charge directly to you? Or started charging for you to use cash in light of the cost to them of handling it?
In my personal situation, I was contracted to them, still am prior to these charges being introduced. I don't think it is legal that THEY can make you pay for something that was free and still expect you to have to stay with them. When my contract is up in May, I will be leaving them, they are a rip off anyway.
I will be looking into it with regard to using the legal process as I believe they are trying to alter my contract while I'm not able to be released from my obligations to them.
Talk to companies in the language they understand FORCE!!!!!!I have numerous qualifications in Business and Finance, Accountancy, Health and Safety and am now studying Law.
Don't rely on anything I write as it may be wrong!!!0 -
this isnt new... if u dont pay by DD u are charged an 'admin fee', you are told this BEFORE taking out said service.
people complain way too much these days!0 -
i'm having a appointment for a free 30 mins with a soliciter on wednesday to discuss possible claiming my money back through the legal system.
under law these charges are legal under a 1991 law
but under the main laws of the land they could be unlawful
i'm going to fight that these charges are in breach of section 12 of The Bill Of Rights Act 1689 and Section 29 of Magna Carta 1297
these laws both over-ride new laws so the 1991 act, that says it's legal, has to be over-ridden0
