Hi all
Does any kind soul have any info on the cheapest way to call an SA mobile? I've googled it and it's a minefield!
I'm on the Full Monty plan with T Mobile if that's any help
TIA

Get a White Mobile sim (which will work even if your phone is locked to T-Mobile) and calls to South Africa are 3p landline, 8p mobile and 8p texts.

If you want to keep it in a phone just buy a cheap sim free or T-Mobile PAYG phone to keep the sim in.====0 -
Use Localphone.0

If you are calling to the same numbers (3 max), with O2 International Favourites you get 3000 landline minutes and 100 mobile minutes for £10, i.e. 0.3p/min for landlines.
Also, you can get a free local SA number that your friends can use to call you.
It's 3000+200 and 5 numbers for £20.0 -
Useful if most of the calls are to landlines otherwise Localphone would cost less for mobiles at 5.6p/min.

From experience landlines aren't as prevalent in South Africa as in the UK. Even public call boxes are mobiles with a security box and handset due to the lower cost in providing service as opposed to installation of landline infrastructure.
Unless the person is in one of the big cities (and even then a number of people I know are mobile only due to cost of their State landline company) they will probably be mobile only.
When I was last there, I was actually quite surprised at the inroads GSM operators (there were 4, Vodacom, MTN, 8TA, and CellC) have made into the home broadband market, mobile dongles seem more popular than wired Internet.====0 -

Thanks all for your replies.
Meant to say it's an SA mobile I'll be calling in CT.
Cheers

They could also call you from their mobile in CT for approx. 1.5p/min if they use Cell C as their network.0

White Mobile and Lyca Mobile are still cheaper than the call through numbers, they both charge 3p per minute to landlines.
White Mobile are the cheapest to a mobile at 8p per minute.====0
