stolen money

First post & I really need some help!
I arranged for a Home Report with a firm of surveyors.
Survey went fine and got the report ok. Fairly basic looking but you get what you pay for.
I noticed a day later that some money was missing from my bedroom. I haven't had any other visitors and there is no-one else here in my house. It's not much but that isn't the point.
I have called the police but they don't seem that interested! There must be some organisation I can call to complain about that person? Can anyone tell me who that is and how to contact them?
Thanks.

the thing is, you have NO proof he did anything wrong at all...and no one else would be able to prove anything either, unless he was seen doing it, caught on camera etc.
so its your word against his...
secondly, he may very well have a claim against you as you have named and accused him of something on a public forum, that you have no proof he even did!
if i was you, i would delete the identifying names here...0 -
Theft is a very serious allegation so you really should remove the name.
Opton 1. report to police
Option 2. complain to survey company
Option 3. complain to surveyors professional institution, if he has one.
Without proof though I doubt you would be successful. How do you know someone didn't sneak in when the surveyor was busy?
Do you really think someone on a £50k plus salary would bother to steal small amounts of cash from their clients?0 -
Sounds awful - I have worried about this with all my viewings at the flat.
However, I'd advise you remove the name of the person right now. If that person sees this they could haul you over the coals - what if they came with someone else, a junior, who nicked the money? Does an EA have a key? If you can't prove what you're saying you are making an accusation that could land you in much trouble.
I just don't want you to have a horrible legal case to deal with as well as a petty theft case.0 -

Have you contacted the firm of surveyors or even the surveyor directly?
If you are convinced something is missing, perhaps they/he can shed light on what happened?0 -
What is shocking is that you're making Libelous statements about someone without any proof - such actions could cost you alot more than some pocket change. I would remove both the name of the company and the name of the person.
There's absolutley no need to name the person to get good advice on here, and quite frankly it give's the impression that there's an ulterior motive to this thread.0 -
Thanks for the advice so far. I have removed his name as suggested.
There was no-one else with him and as I say, I live on my own. I don't have nay pets so they can't claim my dog ate it!
I have tried contacting them but cannot get through by telephone, it is constantly engaged and no response to my email!
I am just trying to find out who is the professional body of these people, does anyone know?0 -
You need to remove the name of the company also - it serves no purpose and you are still commiting Libel. You are making a very serious accusation in public, and firms have a tendancy to defend their reputation quite vigorously.
Send them an email stating that you've contacted the police - I'm sure they'll be in contact pretty sharpish.
If they don't respond to that then there should be a complaints procedure on their website. Start there.
If that gets you nowhere then contact the RICS. rics.org.uk.
However, personally I would not start throwing theft accusations around until I'd spoken to the person directly.0 -
I know how you feel -- f-ing angry. I was the victim of an in-house theft but I didn't notice it for a while. It was one of two workmen but I had no proof and in the end I had to swallow it. If I knew definitely who it was, I would still like to break their legs but there is nothing to be done. I mentioned it to the company in case there were complaints in future (once a thief, etc.) but they, of course, said that all their employees were 100% checked and trustworthy. if you accuse the thief he will deny it. I am very sympathetic but you will just have to move on.Je suis sabot...0

You can't prove the money existed in the first place so you will never be able to prove it was stolen.
I'm puzzled - why are you having your own property surveyed?.....................I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)

Also why did you leave money on show when you opened your house up to a stranger?0
