Maybe they're sick of all the 'why should I pay' parents? Or maybe they've been complained to so much from the parents who actually pay who have the cost increased because some think they shouldn't have to pay? Or maybe they've found that the more notice some parents are given, the more likely they are to 'forget'?

Is it really a big deal?

I appreciate that but my objection comes from the "pay up or else your child will suffer" tone of the letter. If this a compulsory trip then they must have known about it for some time so I don't see why they can't give us a bit more notice plus be a bit politer!

No school trip at all? No visit to a local historical place? No museum visits? I find tha very hard to believe.

Are you calling me a liar? I do hope not. No, no museum visit or historical place. No trip out of school and no payment since year 7, she is now in year 10. I would hazard a guess that yours are younger.

I don't - my son is in his 3rd year at secondary school and has only had 1 residential trip in that time, They don't seem to do day trips.

What a shame. Small school trips to local places can be really beneficial. I think I'd be asking the school why they aren't being a bit more imaginative and why they're never taking them out of the classroom!

Odds are you kid has known about this trip for ages and didn't bother mentioning it if it's a compulsory part of a course.

It's "only a few pounds" and you are implying that you can afford it (and if you can't the school will have a fund for it) .

Your post just reads like you are trying to pick a fight TBH.

I'm genuinely surprised. I thought they had to have trips out.

We used to get letters asking for payment for the trip plus a voluntary donation towards those who could not afford it.

Years 7 and 8 usually DO have trips -even if only one a year so yes it is very unusual. I think I'd be asking the school why not. The only time I can recall it not happening (either as a parent or when I worked in a high school) was when a class behaved so badly the trip was cancelled -but it was certainly planned first.

I think its more common in primary schools for trips...when you get to 2ndery school it generally has alot more students and kids get less interested in activities...when your 9 a musem is fun...when your 16....
