Care parcel to Mexico

I sent a parcel to my daughter in Mexico... Just a few t shirts and a letter. Cost me £30 postage . Now she tells me they will not deliver it unless she pays 60 dollars
I read all the regs, etc so why when this is a care parcel does she have to pay more than the parcel is worth. The parcel was sent via DHL and parcel monkey.

It would most likley bee Mexican import duty and sales tax, which typically includes the postage costs in the total value.

Surely your daughter will have been told how the charges have been accrued?

Sounds like the normal import duties etc but as above yoru daughter will have a breakdown of costs. We do not have a worldwide free movement economy, if your daughter had sent items to you they would also have attracted duty and tax as well as a handling charge if the cost, including postage exceeded £15 (UK rate).

I am not sure what you mean by 'care package' but if that is a Mexican thing then you need to talk to them about it and any exemption you feel it should have. We do not have such an exemption in the UK so you are unlikely to get any help on a UK forum .

The clothing was her own...not new stuff. She is doing an internship there...very low pay and she needs this stuff...underwear and t-shirts etc... Not new stuff.

What did you fill in as the value of the contents? And did you describe it all as used personal effects?

    It's not a care parcel, it's just a parcel.

What did you put on the customs declaration and what did the breakdown of charges say ? As to it being a 'care parcel', you need to get this out of your head as it's irrelevant - it's simply a parcel containing her personal effects, not brand new clothes etc.

You should have listed it as a gift.
