A simple google of a contents insurance policy:

    13. Loss of keys. We will pay for the reasonable cost of replacing locks to the external doors of your home and alarms and safes if your keys are lost or stolen.

Nice one G_M! I guess most of us don't read our policies very closely! I put my hands up to that! :o:o:o Thanks, I'm going to dig my paperwork out & read through it.
OP you should check your paperwork too & see what it states about your situation.
  • That's why I thought it would be covered by the landlords insurance as the locks are not classed as contents surely? Unless I'm mistaken....:o

But the keys are. And the keys being stolen is why the locks need changing.

Yep I get your point now lol, it does actually make sense that it's part of contents. :)
  • So I suspect OP would need to chase their insurance provider about the invoice? Never experienced this so just handy to know.
  • OP its your responsibility - the locks were changed as a result of your contents being stolen. Your own insurer provider should cover this, however check your excess, might not even be worthwhile... that's if you have your own insurance im assuming??

had your keys not been stolen the locks would not need to be changed. Im not sure what prompted you to think the landlord would be the one to take the loss. Unfortunately these things happen.
An opinion is just that..... An opinion
